Prices going up in California again... It's due to the 20 cents tax that went into place Jan 1. and then the "summer gas" preparation by the refineries...

CLH5 crude oil on the NYMEX electronic exchange is up today by $1.43 to $49.67/barrel. Maybe oil is on the way back up. Or maybe not.

I stopped at the Buc-ee's in Baytown (I-10) on my way to Baton Rouge this morning and found some more cheap diesel.
Reading the business section of the Houston Chron over the last several weeks I notice the idle rig count is steadily increasing which means lots of our upstream work force is being laid off.
I really enjoy the cheap diesel but think I'd sleep better paying more like $3/gal. I'm sure the price of oil will go back up but when and how much? In the interim what's the REAL cost to us all?
In any case here's what I paid:Click image for larger version

Well, our diesel finally dropped below $3.00, down to $2.949, unfortunately that is still $.95 above the price of unleaded, a $.95 differential. I wish somebody could explain to me, in terms I can understand, why a significantly less-processed product is so much more expensive than unleaded gasoline.
