What sealant.. fresh water tank fitting

I need to unscrew a fitting on my fresh water tank. Anyone know what Jay Co uses to seal the fitting? The white stuff that you can see breaking off in the pic.

Not sure what they use but I would use the white teflon plumbers tape on the threads of the fitting. Just a couple of bucks a roll and available at any hardware store or home center.

Teflon plumbers dope is better. Way easier to use than Teflon tape. Just sayin'

I happen to agree with this. I used to use Teflon tape on everything, but have switched to pipe dope because of numerous plumbers advice.

I will have to try the dope on my next plumbing job at the crabhouse. Always open to new ideas that work better and/or easier. The tape can be a bit nerve wracking at times.

My biggest thing with the tape was which way to wrap it. I always went the wrong way...

Now I have a problem. What should I do with all the rolls of tape in my tool box?

Thanks, never heard of the dope. Happy to empty toolbox's of the tape, I usually use about 5 or 6 feet to get 4 or 5 inches OK; then find out I went in the wrong direction!
