Tire covers

How many of you guys use tire covers on your trailer during storage? Where is the best place to get some?

When ever mine is parked with the slides in the covers are on. When our slides are out they are under the slide and are shielded from the sun. I just bought some extras from Harbor Freight in a 4 pack. They are cheap enough that if they only last a few years you can just throw them away.

Harbor Freight has a 4 pack for $10. Decent heavy canvas ones. Not the greatest things around but they cover the tires on my 154bh with room to spare, (13" rims) and they keep the direct sun off.

GMC, are the harbor freight covers big enough to fit the tire on 15" wheels? They say they fit up to 24" diameter tires. The ones Clubhouse mentions above from amazon fit 27" - 29" tires. Thanks,

I use the ADCO covers - necessary application as I understand the UV rays can prematurely age your sidewalls. Camping World has them for $26 a pair.

Not sure. I guess that depends on the tire size you have on those wheels. My tire are pretty small, 175/80/13, and they fit with room to spare

Never used tire covers myself. I don't see the logic of using them, especially when they should be replaced, regardless of mileage, every 5 years or so. My first set of tires (worn out at 30K miles or so) saw lots of desert sun, and I saw no cracks in the sidewalls. However they were only about 3 years old when I replaced them.

First time I saw covers on rv tires, I thought they were there to keep dog pee off of them. Seriously.

That could be a good marketing idea.

I don't use covers because I plan to replace the tires every 3-4 years. It seems that a blow out can cause tremendous damage and I'd rather not try to extend the life of the tires but just get "fresh" ones for peace of mind.

I bought a set on EBay. I have had them 3 years so far. I only put them on the TT when it is sitting more than a weekend. So far they have held up just fine.

I bought mine at harbor freight they are cloth, but I will see how long they last, fit right on nice and easy

I own 4 boats, 2 utility trailers and a TT. Lots of tires over the years and thru experience is that it is sun and exposure that kills a tire. I have never actually ran the tread off a trailer tire. As far as the 5 year replacement thing, I truely believe that it is nothing more than a marketing tool to sell more tires. I keep an eye on my trailer tires looking for cracks in the side walls or uneven tread wear. While I would not set off for a 5k mile road trip with 6 or 7 year old tires, I have never replaced tires just because they are over a certain age. When you start seeing cracks in the side walls its time.

Used covers on my last 2 TT's after I replaced a set on my O6 Keystone. The cost for new tires is significant and just letting nature take its course seemed to be a bad strategy. Covers are cheap and there are a lot of DIY alternatives.
