Water Purifiers

Supposedly our 2012 Jayco Pinnacle REQS has a water purifier built in. We don't pick it up for another two weeks, and of course I'm excited. However, I have no idea where the water purifier is. Can anyone with a Pinnacle tell me where there's is located?

Question #2. For aftermarket in-line water purifiers, do you have a brand preference? My wife is so picky about her water, she can smell the ice cubes. I personally could drink out of a lake. Just kidding. But I want to make sure she can drink from the tap.

Thanks for any help.

Don't know about a Pinnacle but the one Jayco that I had before the current fiver the filter was supposed to be mounted under the kitchen sink. The dealer showed it to me and said they would install it if I wanted it. Since it was in nearly an inaccessible space I declined. He said that most people did. I just went to Home Depot and bought a GE whole house water filter and the brass fittings to use with a standard water hose. I use carbon filters when I am on the road. At my seasonal site in WV I have a second filter that I attach to the carbon filter with a union. The water at that site is quite dirty so I put a standard sediment filter in it. I have the sediment filter before the carbon filter at the seasonal site. Just be aware that your water flow will be restricted somewhat by the addition of whole house filters. YMMV

I have the 2012 351 RLTS and our water filter from jayco is behind the water control panel and is a PITA to get to. I also use an inline filter, the blue things from like a Walmart that have charcoal, but the water at most places is still not drinkable, heck some smell so bad I can hardly shower in it.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like more of a chore if it's behind the water control panel. I guess I'll find out soon enough. We had the in-line external tube filters in the past, and we have had our water pressure dropped quite a bit. The first time out will tell the tale. Thanks again.

I use a blue inline filter to help protect the water heater from filling up with crud.

Get a whole house filter. They are available at most hardware stores and Wal-Mart. Best if you use a dual filter system (pre-filter then charcoal). Another source for products and information is the RV Water Filter Store.

Years ago I tried the blue inline RV filters. I was not impressed. They don't perform nearly as well as the whole house filter. Initial costs will be higher, but over time less.

If your wife is picky about water, the whole house is your best option.

Use one of these to mount the GE Style whole house filters. They work great. http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...er-stand/18479

Guys,

Quick word of caution on the filters, no matter what type. Once you wet them you need to be using them 'very' regularly. As soon as you stop the flow through them bugs can start to grow. Especially with the Carbon filters. The carbon removes all the chlorine from the water so there is nothing preventing any growth. Think your water's been tasting/smelling funny? Maybe its your filter and not the water. Once wetted and with no fresh flow through them all kinds of stuff starts to grow. Does your used water filter hang out in a very hot RV when not in use? Even a week in this environment is enough to fill a filter with slime (get a clear housing and put a carbon filter in it and see for yourself). Breeding ground for stuff. You can help get longer life if you put them in your refrigerator when not using but most are big and take up lots of space. Filling your tank with water filtered via charcoal (carbon) filter? Think twice. The chlorine in the city water is there for a purpose. It'll keep your water in your tank fresher longer and your tank cleaner (when using the tank of course). I personally would only use a filter at the sink tap (a PUR or Brita style) for drinking water. Actually I just buy Walmart bottled water for all drinking and cooking.

BTW, I've been the water business for 15 years.

Regards,

Very good advice. Charcoal canisters are cheap so buy a few and change frequently. In regard to bottled water we ALWAYS buy "spring" water not "purified" water. It not only tastes better it's better for you.
Happy trails,

We are on a well, so no chlorine here. We do use the inline filter to fill the tank and on city water at the campgrounds.

I just got my 2103 Eagle Premier and the water filter is located behind the water control panel on the left side. I have a little screwed on door I have to take off to get to. Mine is not to hard to get to.

Thanks everyone for the information. I found the filter behind the same panel as cruzinfools. Thanks for the tip on the fresh water maintenance too.

The filter on my Eagle was behind the utility center. Access was through a screw off cover and it was difficult to access. I replaced the whole house filter with an accumulator tank to improve the pump action. I use an outside sediment filter when hooking up or filling my tank. I also installed a separate drinking water filter under the sink with it's own water spigot mounted on the counter top. I use a KDF carbon filter which is bacteriostatic so it is good for intermittent use and lasts a year.
