The trucks don't pull you in and push you off if you have your running gear properly set. Have never towed a 5th so can't comment on that. However, I do believe a broadside wind with gusts will give you problems with both.
I'm led to believe that MPG is a bit better with the 5th. The reason I say that is the person that owned my tuck for the first 32k miles pulling a 5th got 12 to 13 and can only get 10.5 to 11.

I'm 74 years young and the 5th is looking better all the time due to set up and breakdown.
effort.
Thanks for that MPG info. I have the same truck and was wondering what MPG to expect towing my octane 273 (when it comes in) I was hoping for at least 10. Plan a trip to alaska and back from NY next summer with maybe a side trip to the desert sw. Fuel costs add up quick when you're talking about 15,000 miles or so.

My WH is 34+ feet from ball to bumper. It seems that the extra length I added with the WH over my previous 28'er was mostly added in front of the wheels. Anyway you will learn very quickly the need to make extra wide turns [especially the right ones]. Watch the 18 wheelers and you'll understand the effect. Otherwise my WH tows like a champ. Set it up right and you're good to tow. Never owned or pulled a 5'er so can't comment on that comparison.

Note: Anything 30' or more will limit available camp sites. The older CG's were not designed for the bigger RV's regardless of type. Just stayed at a Natl F Cg on the blueridge pkwy. Less than 10% of the sites were long enough for my WH.

Forgive me, I just woke up. Is that WH an Atwood or a Suburban?

WH = White Hawk. Lost me there, what is an Atwood or Suburban in the context of long trailers?

Get the floor plan you can live with. Some prefer 5th wheels and others prefer travel trailers. After having both my wife and I both prefer a travel trailer. Sometimes it's hard to find a travel trailer that is as plush as a top of the line 5th wheel. That being said we really like our Eagle 330RLTS. When set up properly they tow every bit as good as a 5er.

We have had both and I prefer the 5er. The 5er is much easier to hitch up, no bars to attach/detach and to center that darned ball. Hitching can be done by one person. We grew from a 30' TT to a 34' 5er and our towing length is the same. Love the height inside the 5er and the added space, but have to be more aware of your towing height.

If you have your heart set on the TT floorplan then get it. You don't want to have any regrets later.

With a properly adjusted hitch, a TT will tow pretty well in the wind, but it will never tow better than a 5th wheel in the wind. With the pivot point of the 5th wheel being just in front of the rear axle, the trailer does not try to turn the TV into the wind the way a TT does. Also, the lighter the trailer, the more the wind will affect how it tracks behind the TV.
Over all, I'm not saying one is a better RV than the other. I've had both, and enjoyed them all. I'm just saying I prefer how a 5th wheel pulls compared to a TT.
