Rattlesnake Avoidance for Dogs..

Interesting thread running at RV.NET on the subject of rattlesnakes and dogs. I never heard of an actual class on the subject of "Rattlesnake Avoidance" for dogs,

Anybody here at JOF had their dog(s) participate in this type of class?

Clicked the link - but haven't read the thread yet. My gut says that dogs would, like other animals, know the danger of the rattle and back off. Not sure on that though...

We take our dog to Rattlesnake Avoidance class every year. The class teaches your dog to recognize the scent, sight & sound of a rattlesnake. We came across a rattlesnake while hiking last week. Our dog caught the scent of the snake before we saw it.

rattlesnakes are fairly common here in central california. we will come across a few every summer while walking our dogs. we had a rat terrier for 12 years that would kill any snake it saw including rattlers. we now have two generic dogs so i am not quite sure what they will do. the weather is warming here so it wont be long before we find out.

We were hiking in N. Georgia a few years ago and I almost stepped on one. I think I defied the laws of gravity as I went straight up a few feet.

My German Short-haired Pointer and Hound mix would lead us right to it and take the bites for us. Not out of good intentions, but stupidity! We love our gals anyway!
