x213 Owner - Looking for battery

Hi, I currently have an Exide Stowaway 24MDPST battery on my TT looking to get a backup to charge up and have on had while boondocking. Found Kirkland 27DC which appears to be a 12v battery as well, but with more cold cranking amps (500 for the Exide vs 750 for the Kirkland).

My question is, as long as both batteries are 12v, I should be ok, right (meaning it doesnt matter if Amp hours, cold cranking amps, and other values are different?)

Thanks

Not Quite....
The new battery should be from the same Mfr, Model, Voltage AND Ah rating as the existing battery.
Do not mix batteries with different Amp Hours.
Do not mix TRUE DEEP CYCLE batteries with regular Marine/RV type batteries (which are not true deep cycle batteries) that come with most TT/RV's.

There are a lot reasons for not mixing batteries.

If you have an Interstate 85Ah 12VDC battery, add the identical battery to it.

If you are going replace your existing battery with new batteries, and plan on dry-camping, buy TRUE DEEP CYCLE batteries, they do not have any Cold Cranking Amp ratings.

Just my thoughts,
Don

Ok, so what I'm hearing is that that rather than have 1 battery (Battery A) hooked up to my TT, with a second (Battery B) on Deck just in case, the recommendation is to just buy a second battery that is the same model/specs as Battery A and just wire them up together on the TT.

Would either of the options described above be preferred, or is it personal preference? Thanks!

if you just have it unhooked waiting for the other to get depleted than it doesn't have to be the same. Your choice

If you buy a second battery, same model as first, you do not have to worry about watching the battery when it hits 50% (12VDC) and having to swap them out. EXAMPLE - If you hook up (2) 85 Ah 12VDC batteries in parallel, you will have 170 Ah, this will last longer........

Just my thoughts,
Don

It is also said that batteries should match in size, make and manufacture date.

This is why alot of folks will pick up two each 6VDC Golf cart batteries from COSTCO or SAMs CLUB. This will give you 12VDC at 220 AHs for around $180 plus core charge and then you can keep your other 85AH Battey as a standalone backup (not connected until needed)

I would want to have at least 200AHs of battery capacity for any off-road camping to run my basic appliances and lights etc...

In my case I can guarantee that just having one battery on-line would drop below the 50% charge state around 10-11PM at night sounding alarms making me get out of bed to switch to a fresh second battery.

IF a battery has a CCA rating it is not a true deep cycle.. You will get much better life getting 2 6 volt golf cart batteries and wiring them + to - to get 12 volts.. they will have more power and longer life than 2 12 volt batteries.

Belated Thanks!

Update, I bought the Kirkland 27DC battery at Costco, put it on a trickle charger before the trip, charged it completely and tried it out before my trip to be sure it at least worked a little bit!

Took it out, had it on deck, but the original battery never ran out, so good news there. Anyway, when the time comes I should be set. Thanks again.
