My question is, do most owners carry an insurance policy on their unit and is this a comparable price?
Thanks!
Yes.

I always say to ask the what if's? Go through it with your broker and confirm what would happen in those cases you present. i.e. collision on the road for total loss or campground damage (tree, wind or hail) with no TV attached. That's a good way to learn your policies limitations and where you might need to beef it up.

I also carry an umbrella policy as a failsafe.

I was going to add my trailer to my auto policy; however, my auto policy only offers liability coverage when connected to a tow vehicle. I did not want to be without liability insurance while at an RV park or while it's being stored.

I made this mistake on my first TT and after the first season learned the important lesson of the differences in coverages. Since then I have been covered and probably over covered, but in today's world you need it.

Now, the liability does come from your TV while on the road and connected so if you can stay with one company it is going to make claims easier should you ever have one. Companies fight all the time when it comes to blame and if you have 2 policies that cover seperate claims on the same RV you might run into an issue. I am not saying it's certain, just possible. See if your auto ins has something to add on specific to the RV.

I had Allstate and now have USAA. Both sell coll. And comp. on the trailer. Also personal property is covered by my homeowners policy.
