Storing - stabilizers down or up??
I'm about to park my new X213 in the RV Storage lot for about two weeks (and again off and on throughout the summer) - the Jayco manual says not to store the trailer with the stabilizers down, but I can't find anything else about it that says why.... while driving by the storage lot this afternoon, I noticed that almost every trailer parked there had the stabilizers down.....
Can anyone clear this up for me?
thanks

I do not deploy my stabilizers while storing my TT. I also store my TT nose up so rainwater runs off the rear of the TT. The stabilizers are used to stabilize the TT while you are using the TT. If you were to deploy the stabilizers and then had a tire go flat the extra weight on the stabilizer would not be good.

I store mine up also. At my age I could forget they are down and drive off with them that way. And I dont want to replace them.

I store mine in my backyard with the stabilizer jacks extended.
I often go in and out of my trailer. Do not like the wiggle.

My stabilizers are rated at 5,000 lbs each.
Even if both tires on one side went flat it would be ok. Total loaded weight of trailer is 9,000 lbs.

It isn't a matter of the stabilizers integrity, it is a matter of excessive twisting forces on the frame. They are stabilizers and not levelers. Just my .02

I keep mine up. I just figure that is four less contacts with the ground that critters can use to invade my TT. I have not had any invasions yet, and I hope to keep it that way.

Stabilizers up for all the reasons mentioned.., especially during outside winter storage.

Unless you are using it in storage keep em up... fewer places for mice etc to invade...

I always store them up. It's one less thing to "forget" when jacking up the tongue or towing away.

Perhaps the frame on my trailer is different than most.
I've stored mine for over 9 years in my backyard with the stabilizers extended.
Your mileage may vary.....

I wasn't trying to insult you or insinuate that you store your camper incorrectly, maybe I wasn't clear enough in my explanation.
If you snug up the stabilizers and then you have a flat tire/s then they are now supporting the weight of the camper rather than the wheels/tires. Most stabilizers can handle the weight without any problems, but their placement can contort the frame and cause alignment issues (window, door, etc.) if they bear too much weight.
This scenario is sort of a 'perfect storm' situation as it is pretty unlikely that both tires would go flat on the same side at the same time.

No worries.:hihi:
Actually, I have a Sunnybrook Titan travel trailer with stacked I beam frame. It is so rigid I can actually level my trailer with the jacks and the door won't jam. I have friends with other trailers that tried the same thing and the frame torqued and jammed the door shut.
I've even used the stabilizer jacks to change a tire. I would not recommend most trailer owners attempt a stunt like this.
You can't do it with the current Sunnybrooks. They changed their frame design a few years ago.
That said, I'll probably drop my jacks when stored on my next trailer. I go in and out frequently and do not like the "jiggle". I understand the risks and don't think it will hurt the frame if the tires lose a few psi.

Thanks Dmax/Usmc! Considering most members here have the newer tt's... your advice is well appreciated!! We had never considered the issue of a flat during storage but neither of us want the additional stress on those 'stabilizers'
