Smile FINALLY - A clean awning

I just wanted to say that after 3 years of trying to clean my awning and get all the stains off, I tried a method described in this forum using water, a small amount of bleach and some dish soap. I sprayed it on using my garden sprayer as directed, rolled it up for 20 minutes, and when I unrolled it I was amazed. Ninety five percent of the stains were gone and a light brushing of the rest with an old broom took those off as well. I rinsed it good to remove all the bleach and let it dry. It looks like new!!! Thanks for the great advise, --- again.

A cup or so of bleach a couple good shots of Dawn in a couple gallons of water mixed in a garden sprayer. CAUTION: Watch your eyes and wear old clothes.

And... To keep mine clean I sprinkle Goldbond medicated powder on my awning as I roll it up before storage. The zinc oxide in the powder prevents mildew growth. It has been used in paint for the same purpose. Just a dusting is all you need. I use the generic version from Walmart. Just make sure it has zinc oxide in the ingredients.

Great idea about using the powder, I'll have to try that this fall before storing.
