2009 Jay Feather x213 into a Cargo Trailer

First off, I was looking forward to being part of this forum, learning, sharing and excited about my new family camping trailer before it all came unraveled.

Long story short: I purchased a 2009 Jayco Jay Feather for my family and it turns out it was a salvage cover up, once I got it down the road it started to fall apart due to a previous accident. I thought I could fix the few problems I noticed, but once I got into it the damage was so extensive there was nothing I could do. I made the decision to transfer all the good "guts" into a car hauler and make myself a one of a kind rv. Here is a link with pictures if anyone wants to see the total destruction of a Jayco trailer and a bit of the process of putting it back together. I kept the same exact floor plan as my original Jay Feather x213.

Great job on the trailer. You have a real talent there (potential business???).

WOW!!!! You have some serious talent. How much time did this project take? I really love what you did with the closed cell insulation. You should be proud. I hope you and your family enjoy that trailer.

Thanks for the comments. I got the car hauler at the beginning of May and I am about a week from completion. Its had its ups and downs but now there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

We had a 2009 213 and when we picked it up the counter was pulled from the wall just a little bit. With in months it was pulled from the wall two inches. Jayco was great and replaced the frame. If you search on line they had a lot of problems with the frames on the 213. There great service is the reason I bought from them again.

Very nice. No reason to leave the forum. I think that earns you a star by your name at the least. How long did that take to complete and how much do you think you spent to get it completed?

All said and done, the actual build will have been about 4 months (not including the tear down). Money wise I have not been keeping track, but I am thinking I will be right around $20K which includes the Jayco purchase and Cargo trailer purchase. We splurged on the insulation ($900) and composting toilet ($1,000) along with a multitude of other "upgrades/changes" which increased the bottom line. If I would have done a straight swap I think I could have kept it under $15K.

It's really nice. I did the spray foam in our new home. Was paying $350-$400 elect bill for 2500 ft in old house and 2500 ft in new house only running $125. Your not going to have any cooling or heating problems. You know you should open your own RV repair shop.
