RV virgin in Montana

My name is David, my wife's name is Brenda, and we no longer want to sleep on the ground or use a porta-potty again.
So, we bought a 2015 Octane 222 super lite toy hauler and a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 to pull it with. It's our first RV, with previous trips done on a motorcycle or in the car. I've done my time "enjoying the journey, not the destination" on the motorcycle, plus this will open an opportunity for us to get out of here in the winter with the bike for a ride someplace warm.

1st thing I noticed when we pulled it off the lot and got it home was that those things are a lot bigger than they look when they're parked next to all the larger travel trailers on the lot!
Took it across the continental divide to see how it handled the pass and that went well. Got a baseline weight done on a cat scale, and confirmed my findings that manufactures tongue weights are um, conservative?

Anyways, it will be a totally different experience for us, and one I think we're really going to enjoy.

Congratulations!

Keep in mind that the listed tongue weight is based on the manufacturers dry weight. Dry weight being a fictional number. A more real number is the shipped weight, which on the yellow sticker outside the trailer. Figure 13% of the shipped weight and see if that's closer to your actual tongue weight. Now load up your stuff and the numbers change again.

No matter, your trailer should be well within your truck's ratings.

Don't worry too much about and just have fun!

I'll never go back to the cold hard ground( with a few rocks always in the wrong place). That 4to5 AM call is a lot warmer now and I don't have to put my shoes on either.
Now go out and enjoy yourself!

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome; although I am not the most sociable person and prefer observing, I think I'll like it here. Just like you guys said - the bears, rocks, 4 to 5AM wake up call, I guess I really have to believe I went for all this and start enjoying the "investment".

David, you and Brenda have a fantastic time. We did the tent thing pulling a trailer behind our bike for years. Wonderful experience. Then went to a toy hauler. Now that expanded our comfort zone. Been there, done that.
As others have said..............get out and enjoy the experience.
Congratulations

You sound alot like me. I've taken three cross country trips on bikes .Each around 10,000 miles. The last was this past summer. What got to me most was the sleazy motels I had to use to stay within my budget. I also always wanted to have my atv and dual sport bike out in the desert and check out the nice dirt roads and trails. I was all set on the 222 because it will be just me and I wanted something easy to tow and the lighter the better mpg. I'm 6'5" and they put the shower all the way forward in the trailer where the roof tapers down . That was a deal killer for me , so I had no choice but to step up a size to the 273. Gonna try to finally make it to Alaska next year

Yes it is! Rode to ROT back in 2006 and love riding the hill country and the people down there... great food too. Can't wait to get another chance to get down there.

I agree exactly on the sleazy motels. It was fine when it was just me, I could just find a two lane road and pull off into a grove of trees, shower from someone's garden hose most of the time but then I go move to Montana and all of a sudden a hot shower gets to be pretty important after a day of riding, just to warm up.
