Thanksgiving in our RV

Just made reservations for Lake Ray Roberts Texas state park over thanksgiving. We have an oilless turkey fryer that we will take with us and a whole lot of sides from Trader Joe's. I can't imagine a better way to have a family Thanksgiving than spending it camping. If anybody lives in the Dallas area and will be camping that weekend let us know. We might need rolls or a pecan pie

We did that last year, 9 camping in 2 TT and 13 day visitors for actual Thanksgiving. Most of us really enjoyed it -- T day rotates in my family, this year will be a more traditional event.

Hey Kelly, Isle Du Bois... That is our favorite area... We even try to snag the same site every time if we can. #151... Already know which branches of what trees to hang lights from and everything... We have tent camped, pop up trailer camped and now TT camped there.. We love that place.. And it's only about 45 minutes from our house.

We would go out every Thanksgiving with the friends. even had a big wall tent to eat in
The turkey (George) would go in my oven I had the biggest one.
We have a friend with a special needs daughter, one year she was telling everyone that the turkey was in the bathtub, Her mother asked me what was this all about.
Well the turkey is in the bathtub. The only place I could keep it until ready to go in the oven.
We had a lot of fun those days.
But things change. people die, get divorce, going to go across the line with two couple first time.
Mike did not want to go across had a bad experience when he was camping years ago.
anyway work is calling heading out the door
Need to get some things done before Monday morning.

In the past, we have had the whole extended family camping for Thanksgiving. We have stayed at State park and on private land. Only issue with private land is no water, so you have to haul in. Have had as many as 9 in 3 rv's. Missed last year because of my dad's declining health. Not sure what we will do this year.

Rather than try to cook turkey in oven, we either fry or cook in stand alone electric roaster.

What we have done in the past for thanksgiving as far as food was we would call a restaurant (lubys) and order pre cooked meal take it to campgrounds (tyler state park) and warm it over camp fire . Mmmmmmmmm getting hungry thinking about it

Keep the suggestions coming and I love everyone's stories. We are lucky that we have the oil less propane fryer. Easy to transport and setup. I think we may have a friend come up for the day so he can bring anything that we miss. We are really looking forward to this as this will be our first Thanksgiving camping.

I asked if my teenage boys would wear feathers on their heads but got THAT look back so.. Oh well...

This thanksgiving will be 5 years that we have gone out. I BBQ the turkey on the Sunday before, pack things up, then leave on the Tuesday before. When turkey gets here we start a fire and heat everything up over it. Then we sit down and have our meal looking at the Superstition Mountains. Awesome turkey day.
