Jayco Fifth Wheel Battery Upgrade

I recently purchased a 2014 Jayco 321RLTS Premier and decided to upgrade the batteries as we like to dry camp much of the time. The battery compartment on my trailer is quite small as it is designed for 2 group 24 12 Volt batteries and I didn't want to use up precious space in the storage compartments for larger batteries. I did some rearranging and was able to convert my existing battery compartment to handle 2 group 24 6 Volt batteries in the place of the twelve volt batteries giving me much more longevity charge to charge. Since the 6Volt batteries are a couple of inches taller than the 12 Volt batteries it was necessary to change a couple of items to accomodate the additional height (the footprints are the same). If you will notice the lower battery compartment lip was folded down slightly to allow that battery to slide in. Remember with this configuration you must wire the two 6 Volt batteries in series instead of parallel as with the 12 Volt setup. I am attaching some photos to show what I did and maybe it will be something that some of you guys would want to do.

Nice job... is the lower battery on a slide out tray so you can check it monthly for water use? (and if you did not know always use distilled water when filling the battery)

Thanks to all for your kind comments. Seann's Idea about a slide out tray on the bottom is a great idea, I didn't bother to do it on mine. To do this you would have to raise the upper tray about an inch or so to accommodate the tray slides on the bottom but it could be done fairly easily.

Very nice job!!!! I sure wish our 31.5 RLTS had a battery box configured like yours. i had to stick with deep cycle 12 volts and it still has very little head room..

I would suspect that anyone who has the ability to put this package together is smart enough to only use distilled water in the batteries.

I have a 2013, 31.5 RLTS and my battery just exploded. The converter is still putting out DC but I have lost all DC Circuits. I need to find someone with the wiring drawing so I can trouble shoot the DC circuits. Can anyone help us??
Matt sends...........
