Seeing the inside of my ceiling. Not to surprising that it is minimal. Until I've bumped this RV over rough road a time or two will I feel comfortable that the screws caught wood.
Great suggestion on speakers, thanks for the info.
Man those OEM speaker grills were a b*%$ to remove, but the old fashion paint can opener was the trick!
Did you need the gaskets? I was able to put my speakers in the holes that were already there without an issue. I just had to drill new holes for the screws.

I just did it because the I structions said to. I was worried that the screws might need the gasket base to seat properly. I first thought, hey they're marine grade so to use them outside, maybe need a gasket, but went ahead and used them on the ceiling. If the cabin ever fills completely with water, i'll still be good.

BTW, How do you get the cover off of the speakers? Do they pop off?

The tip mentioned way up in this thread said to use one of those old style paint can pry tools, which I just happened to have. Even with that they weren't easy. Once started though you could work around the edge and thet pop off.

For those of you that have done the interior speaker upgrade, were you able to retain the original speaker cover? Or did you just use the aftermarket one that came with the speaker?

Much to my DW's dismay, I used the black covers that came with the aftermarket speaker. The OEM grill didn't fit the new speakers.

Has anyone tried running outside speakers yet? My radio is above the couch so running wire to the other side would require going into the ceiling somehow. It technically is possible with this radio, as it has a Front and Rear set of speakers.

The cone in the new speaker was too big for the original grill. I wanted to reuse them but am very happy with the new ones.

I wish

The outside speakers on my Eagle fifth wheel are horrible but would be harder to replace. They sound cheap and were located too close together, and are a unique shape/size. In an ideal world I'd pop them out a put in some better quality, standard sized marine grade speakers, but the openings/wiring would still be too close together. Sigh.....
