Removing side mount air conditioner

My Jayco 185RB has a side mount A/C unit (instead of roof mount). I have not had any of the leakage issues others claim, I even checked it right after driving through a driving rainstorm, it was dry inside.

However, I am not happy with the air sealing around the unit. I can feel air blowing in around the unit, and in winter my wife complained it was very cold next to it. I can see light entering around it, so I know it wasn't sealed at all.

Has anyone removed the unit or had it removed? Can you share the way it gets removed? I just want to take it out and add some weatherstripping around it.

Thanks,

Scott

Sounds like an A/C unit the previous owner may have installed rather than a factory unit. Find yourself a good "handy-man" who is willing to help out. I have a window A/C unit in my house and they do not seal real well and have internal "gaps." You maybe able to use spray foam insulation around the unit to get a better seal.

It wont do much good just insulating where you see light around the slide-in. Cold air can still pass directly through the coils into the TT without the fan running.

Make an insulated cover to pop over the exterior grill for winter camping.

Good Luck!

Interesting, thanks.

I guess it would have to be the top vent as well.
