Battery compartment weight capacity

I'm going to upgrade the battery capacity in my 27.5BHS by installing two Trojan T145 6 volt batteries. Together they weigh around 145 pounds. Does anyone know if the stock battery compartment bracing is sufficient to handle the (considerably!) increased weight? If mods are required, what have you done and how well has it worked? Thanks!

I think this would be a better question asked to Jayco directly. They are always quick to warn against modifications, but per their manual batteries are customer supplied so I would think they would have an available spec on battery compartment weight rating.

Others have asked about the a-frame battery carrier being able to support different configurations and have received straightforward answers from Jayco.

I would hate to see an issue be created from bad advise from an internet stranger.

I added 6 V batteries to mine. They are taller so I had to raise the upper shelf. When I did that I riveted it in place and added additional bolts and nuts to support the shelf. I feel that it still could use some additional support for the upper battery.

Thanks, Clubhouse, for the suggestion. It caused me to look in the owners manual(duh!) to find that the system is sized for Group 27 battery. I called Jayco and they said you could add another Group 27 battery. So looking at the weight on Interstate batteries in Group 27, I see 55 pounds or so apiece for 110 total. Mine are going to be 145, so I'm not as concerned as I was before. I'd still like more real life experience info if anyone has done what I'm planning. (And thanks, DZ, for your input)

I have a 31.5RLTS Eagle Superlite and installed 2 Interstate 6V batteries when I bought the trailer new almost 3 years ago. It is a tight fit but have noticed no issues with them as yet. When the day comes to replace them I will go with the Trojan as they are a tad shorter than the Interstates.. Another way I may go is to put the batteries in a box in the front lower portion of the basement and go with 4 instead of 2. We do some boondocking and could always use more power.

Were you referring to my post? If so, there is tons of room in the front basement. I will have to make some adjustments to the way the partitions are configured and make provisions to vent the gasses but it is easily do-able.

Here's a pic of the install. I chose to install the batteries end-to-end in order to spread the weight over the length of the battery compartment. They would have fit the other way, too. I'd like to say it was some fine engineering that allowed me to fit the batteries in the compartment, but they weren't that difficult (except for the heft!). I actually had a whole 1/2 inch of play to work with in the width and didn't even scrape a knuckle (a rarity).
