The numbers say you are fine.. but just remember that 1800 lbs of "wiggle room" on the tow vehicle includes not only cargo but passengers too..

The 26BH is a great first trailer. It will be tight in the middle and as the kids grow it will get tighter, especially in the dinette. Also, you will have little privacy in the bedroom area, although if your kids are little this won't be a problem.

A trailer with a slide will provide a lot more space without adding all that much weight.

Your truck will be good for a trailer up to GVWR of 7500#.

And has been previously stated, the CAT Scale is your friend.

Welcome to the forum.

I have the 2013 of the same truck with a 3.55 rear end with out the heavy duty package and our trailer loaded is right at 6000 lbs. You will have no problem towing that trailer but you will want to install a WDH and once you get it loaded you will want to take it to a scale and weigh it. Weighing it is the best way to make sure your set up is correct.

The only upgrade I did to the truck was put a load range "E" tire on the truck. I am not sure what tire they put on with the heavy duty package. As far as the WDH I use a Reese Dual cam, works great but can take a little bit to get it dialed in.

Good luck and have fun

We have the same truck as you, without the heavy duty option so our payload is lower. But we have the same engine and rear axle.

We pull a 24FBS Elite, which tops out at 7500lbs full -- although it would require full water tanks to hit that weight (and its got an enormous water tank, which we never fill). Truck pulls it just fine, but like others I highly recommend an equalizer (sway) hitch.

As a side note, you may wish to reconsider buying a trailer without the slide. It's amazing what a difference they make and those kids are only going to get bigger!

Wow, too much over thinking. The OP has plenty of truck for a 7000lb GVW trailer that more than likely will never weigh that much. With 2300lbs of CCC that F150 will done just fine. Load it up and go have fun.

FWIW get an Equalizer WD with the built in 4pt sway control. All in one, and better than the funky add on friction ones.

I have a basic Husky hitch with 1200# bars and a singe friction sway control. Works great; never any sway. You don't need to spend a fortune on a hitch. My trailer weighs about 6800# with a 1/3 tank of water. GVWR 7500#

Be sure there is 12 to 15% of trailer weight on the tongue. Too little weight on the tongue is responsible for a lot of problems with sway.

With that said, a lot of folks recommend the Equalizer.

Hi all,

Again thanks for the good advice. We went in on Sat. to check over the trailer. Next week is our "orientation." We're pretty excited. I pushed hard and the hitch that's getting "thown in" with the deal is now a Reese hitch with weight distribution and active sway (of course we had to "throw in" a bit more cash too).
