Fantastic Fan sealant
Just got Fantastic Vent Fan in mail and want to install it this weekend. My question is this....after installation, can I cover all the screws with ProFlexRV or should I get the Dicor self leveling stuff? I have the ProFlexRV tube but no Dicor and am in a rural area 1 and 1/2 hrs from CW. My roof is Alpha so can I use ProFlexRV and not get any on the roofing or should I waste my Saturday and do the 3 hour trip? I want to do it right, not just okay if you understand.
Happy RVing,
Jeff

how are you going to seal it properly without getting it on the roofing?
It wouldn't be sealed if you didn't. I wouldn't just cover the screw holes. it should completely encase the fan housing and out over the roofing
Did the fan come with butyl tape to apply under the fan first?

No tape...actually the instructions say DO NOT use butyl tape, just the provided foam gasket. They also say to just cover the screws. Got the same response from a CW tech. That sure doesn't seem like enough for me and I don't want any leaks. I agree with you that the entire fan housing should be encased.
So, what type of leveling sealant will mix with the Alpha Ply roofing?
Happy RVing,
Jeff

http://www.fantasticvent.net/
instructions found online show to reinstall using butyl tape
I personally do not like a foam gasket
foam gaskets are for things that are snugged down like A/C units.
The fan should be screwed tight to the roof.....
Maybe someone who just installed one can shed some light as I haven't had any experience with it.
You should call jayco to confirm your roof material. if alpha there is Alpha sealant(hard to find). they say Dicor may work but may not. Best to call Jayco with VIN.

If you call Jayco don't tell 'em what you are planning to do! You may "adjust" your warranty.
You might contact Alpha Ply and see what they recommend. It looks like they sell their own brand of "roof pudding" (my words) so they should be able to tell you what best to seal it with and maybe best practice for mounting.

why would installing a fan void your warranty?
I assume it is done all the time at the dealer

calling alpha ply wont tell him whether he has alpha or EPDM roofing. they won't know

I think it's more an issue with "who" does the work. Jayco wouldn't give me the wiring/construction diagrams because I'm still in warranty.

I just put in a Fantastic Fan and used butyl tape and Dicor II self leveling.
You can order it from Amazon.
As mentioned above look at the video.

Nitehawk- So you skipped the foam gasket for butyl tape? That's what I'm thinking. How about the Dicor II....did you just gob it on the screws or did you go all the way around the fan edge?
Happy RVing

As I said Butyl tape is the only thing to use. I can't imagine using foam. No way it would seal
