I always thought the bottle end caps were more to prevent damage from the wind when driving down the road. IMHO, the water on the awning is simply condensation and the end cap bottles will not do anything to prevent that.

I think its more than condensation. It literally pours down like it raining when you open it. Plus its rolled up tight so not much surface to condensate. I think its wicking in like others have said. The caps would keep water from getting to the ends to wick in.

unlikely these bottles would stay on driving down the highway. They would get blown off in the first mile. They are just for storage

I think I'm going to go with something like this:

AwningPro
http://awningpro-tech.com/

They also come with clips for travelling, so no worries about it coming off.

We had a huge storm and heavy rain Friday evening. I took the caps off Saturday morning and rolled it out. The awing was wet from the edge in about 3' on both ends. The bottles didn't keep it dry, but I was clear the moisture was coming from rain and not condensation. I assume the water is getting into the awing by running on top of the canvas under the cut edge of the bottle.

I will say the awing was less wet than with no caps. In the past when I roll it out, the water seemed to drip heavily as it unrolled for the full length of the awning. Using the caps it was only wet a few feet in from the edges. I might try to figure out a way to make the cap fit more tightly to the rolled up canvas. Right now, it seems to have about a 1/8" gap around it.

What about just plugging the slide rails with two pieces of tight fitting wire? I understand the wick effect, but think the rail is huge inlet for water in these awnings.

I thought the awnings were petri dishes that Jayco threw in for fun
