Proctive wax from Dealers

Are these proactive waxes worth the money? The product is called ResistAll. I am getting a 2015 x18d and offered a wax coating that protects from sides of the trailer from tree sap and other stuff. Is this worth getting?

It might be for $300 or less. But they will likely quote you $1k for it.

Hmmm. Sounds like a major moneymaker for the dealer with little or no benefit to the owner. Wax applied at home on a regular basis will protect your TT from bug splatter, tree sap, etc.. Don't waste your $$.

When it comes to vehicles, furniture, and campers most any dealer applied coating is a money maker for the dealer.

Go to harbor freight buy a power polisher $30.00 some foam pads $6.00 and a good automotive wax $10.00. Now put the rest of the money the dealer would have charged you into your camping fund..

I just looking into this as well, $750 to apply to a 37ft FW. I'm on the fence right now because of the difficulty in applying any product myself and it's brand new sitting at the dealer and will never be cleaner and I don't have to worry about falling off a ladder. Note: this is not a wax, it's a polymer coating (nano-technology) guaranteed to last 5 years. I'm going to call some detail shops and see what they would charge for a similar product, such as the ceramic sealers seem to be the big thing now.

For a couple hundred, folks in the Rio Grande Valley will wash n wax using Meguier product. Granted, you’ll have to drive there but if you stay for a couple months, it’s worth it.

I just talked to John at Metropolitan Detail in Redmond, WA and he seems very knowledgeable and very familiar with Resistall, which they used to apply for a dealership years ago. Bottom line is that you are buying a warranty and the product is not going to last and protect for more than 3 months. For them to apply a ceramic sealer, which involved polishing, base coast, then top coat would cost like $4500 so I'm not doing that either. He recommended to use high quality detail products like Car-Pro Hydrofoam car wash, then spray and buff with Car-Pro Reload which has ceramic sealer in it, and this should last about 3 months. I'll treat the roof separately with a cleaner/UV protectant.

This is great advice. I don't know how some of you have the energy to wash and wax a TT multiple times a year. I think I waxed our old TT 4 times in 6 years and the dealer commented on how clean it was when we traded it in.

Save the money and do it yourself. Meguiars makes a spray on wash off SiO2 product call Hybrid ceramic wax. After an initial spray on wipe dry, subsequent applications only require spray on hose off. Mothers makes a similar product called CMX which is SiO2 and TiO2 which is spray on wipe off.

Basically these are “ceramic coatings” in spray form. They are $15-$20 per bottle. You’d be surprised how well they work. I have the Meguiars on my front cap and will be doing the entire thing once the weather gets nicer.

That is why I have 3 kids... They seem to do a great job of washing and waxing. Seem to enjoy doing it too.
