Hello

I joined today to try to get some advice on a roof repair I've got underway. This looks like a terrific forum and I look forward to participating in other ways.

I've got a 2005 19H Jayfeather which I pull with a Silverado 1500. As a long time Cub / Scout leader I've got a lot of experience camping but very little with the travel trailer.

We just bought it used last summer in August, and only had it out twice before bringing it to a dealer with a long list of needed repairs. They had it all winter, and the floor cracked due to the extreme cold. I was putting new flooring down in the spring when black stuff started dripping on me from the ceiling, which I learned had rotted out.

So it has been in my driveway all summer while I ripped out the old roof and rebuilt around the aluminum frame. I just got the EPDM membrane on this last weekend and I hope to have it all sealed and watertight for the winter. Hopefully we can get some trips in NEXT summer!

I'll see if I can post a photo album of the repair for anyone interested.

Wow! Good for you for taking on such a project. I would never do it as I just do not have the skill. By the way, I can only assume that you got a great deal on this used 19H (I have a new one!). I can also assume that the re-roofing project is costing a bit of money. If you had to do it over again, would you still buy used? Is it worth the hassle and cost?

Thanks for the tip FPM III, I will do that.

docmarrin, this has really been pushing the edge of my capabilities but I like to learn, and I'm optimistic to the point of stupidity. We did get a decent deal on the trailer, but not good enough to justify the cost and effort of the roof replacement. Being new to the whole thing I just didn't realize the extent of the water damage when we bought it and didn't expect to need to replace the roof. I figure my cost has been $2,000 - $3,000 for the project so far. If I had to do it over again I wouldn't buy this particular trailer, but I would have a much better eye for water damage!
