If this is not the case my interpretation of " axle flip " is incorrect, but the root cause and the possible remedy lies in my explanation.

axle flip is just moving the springs from under the axle to over the axle

Or vice versa. I believe in this case he wanted more clearance so he when from factory setting of over to under. They even advertise this can be done.
His problem was the big holes caused his springs to bend, break. The flipping explained above where it may throw your tool in the woods I believe only applies to tandem axel.

I assume "axle flip" to mean repositioning the current axle to an above the spring orientation as opposed to below the spring. Or vice versa.
My question: Can this happen on a truck? That would suck.

Camper bob,
Thanks for the input on "Axle Flip".
I would be curious to read if what Luv2camp is what you described.
Yes, this could happen to any vehicle trailer ,car or truck if conditions a right.
On truck it happens in rough terrain (off roading) or truck and car that has overloading on the rear springs.

That would scare the CRAP outta me!! I'm glad I'm not too close on my rear axle's GAWR!

luv2camp:
I use a local firm which has had all of those items readily available in stock. It is a truck spring shop. I know that they source from Redneck Trailer Supply, a distributor of Dexter axles and components. If you have something similar then I think that would work well for you. This may be good to identify if you do want to replace your axle going forward.
I also use etrailer.com - my experience has been excellent service and delivery with good prices. If you have not already purchased the springs then that would be a good source. I did a very quick search and did not get a hit on bumper stops so I suggest you call them.
A google search returned some other vendors that I am not familiar with.

No throwing the tool to the woods will occur on single axles.
It is rare to get spring inversion on a tandem axle TT.
