Overall I'm still thrilled with the Ram! Even found 87 octane for 2.53 a gallon. I made it from just north of San Antonio to the track on a single tank...my 2011 Ram 1500 last time making the same trip, with a TT weighing 1,000 pounds lighter took 2 tanks of gas (same tank size in each truck).

Great pulling power, great stability too. Set cuise on 63 and off she went...chugging along. Had several folks ask about the thruck at the CC too, felt like a salesman talking about it...lol!

Great purchase and really made towing enjoyable.
Oh, I can't wait to get mine!!

I've had my 6.4 since February, and still loving it. Only complaint so far is an LED puking in the overhead console.

I'm averaging 15.9 mpg on the last 10 fill-ups, and my running average is in my fuelly tag in the sig.

I've been over some nasty passes towing, and got as low as 7.2 mpg. I'm usually 10-11 mpg towing.

A little mis-information here. The 3500 megacab is not down-graded, just down-rated for noise/DOT purposes. If you'll notice, the RPM is lower than on the other ratings. The actual output is identical.

NewBlackDak...you are getting better milage than I am. My overall average not towing is low 14s and towing I'm averaging about 10. I've got as much as 12+ towing and as low at 8. I did pull close to 18mpg on a recent trip though (not towing) and was very happy with that!

I have 3.73 running gear whereas you have 4.10s...I'd think I would be getting a little better milage than you but I do not baby my truck at all...drive it pretty hard.

I too love this truck and so glad I upgraded!

I don't baby it either, but I do drive the speed limit. I do the actual math, and getting somewhere 2-5 minutes earlier in exchange for 2 mpg is not worth it at all.

A full tank of in town mileage is a solid 12 no matter how I drive it.

I really think the 4.10s help more than hurt on a 7200lb truck. Though, With the exception of a single tank at 17.4 mpg(entire drive cruise set at 60), I haven't seen anything near 18.

4.10s do help around town for sure...but the 3.73s helped on my long trip. I normally set the cruise to the speed limit and that is pretty much 75 anywhere here in south Texas.

I too hand calculate my MPGs but the info center has been pretty close on trips and such when I reset it.

Cannot wait to get a deal worked out. Not willing to settle, and not willing to pay more for a truck than my mom paid for my childhood home.

Haha...I've said that about every car/truck I've bought...won't pay more than I paid for my first house! That house was $48,000 and to this day, I've not paid more for a car or truck!

This one worried me but I paid less...even after TTL! Not sure that will hold true with the next one...

I would be severely limited with trucks if I did that. She only paid $32K for it.

Ok, been thinking of going to 6.4 gas. I watched a pulling video on YouTube and the 6.4 never got out of second gear on this test climb.

I don't believe this is actually a good test though as they started on the steep grade instead of having a head of steam up.
What are the real world expeditions if a head of steam was already up before start of climb. Will the dodge hold a higher speed vs trying to gain speed from a stand still.

Oh...my first house was $16,100... VA loan $1 down...$143 monthly total....

They redid the run and the truck shifted correctly (see video below). He shifted the truck on the column in the first video and that messed up the shift points (or the truck doing the shifting). Imagine that is why they redid it.

Still slower than the Chevy based on their other test too...I'm with them and would have thought it would be faster based on the HP and TQ numbers but, it is what it is and they tested them in close conditions.

I have not towed on roads like that so I don't know the answer for being slower? Heck, I've never towed in the mountains other than pulling a pup with a Ford Escape through the Smokey Mountains so maybe that is what she would do with that much weight and up such an incline?

I knew when he changed the gears on the column shifter it messed up the shift points though. That's why I looked for for another video...I've done that myself and thought why isn't this thing shifting right?! You have to go all the way through the gears (beyond 6th) and he didn't the first time. The second video he never touched the manual shift button on the column and the truck did a better job of holding the gear and upshifting (thought it was a little late on the down shift though).

If I lived in the mountains I would buy a diesel anyway for the shear torque of getting up such hills. I live in Texas so not many hills and certainly nothing like that climb!

The truck does a great job of staying in the right gear with my experience towing. It will shift down when needed but my travels so far, it has shifted very little.

Here is the second run... (don't know how to embed)

I've never had any problem keeping 63-65 on some nasty grades. One regular trip I take goes up and over 9260 ft, and drops back down to 6500. I then have to summit again on the way home. Mileage is ****(7-8 mpg, depending on winds), but the cummins guys are only getting 9-10 on the same stretch. The truck does act very weird if you try to shift it yourself. It does much better just selecting tow/haul and just driving.

Boy, I would be severely limited! Paid $17,500 for a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house back in the late 60's. It was great! Lol. Looking at new 2014 or 2015 Dodge Ram 3500's now. But I hope to sell my 2007 2500 5.9litre for about half of that. Just think I would feel a lot safer in the bigger truck when I head into the mountains.

Some don't understand there are no short cuts in owning a TT or 5er combination and be safe on the road. We all like to safe on fuel. More weight means more fuel use. Underpowered means more fuel when towing and more wear on the TV. Old technology means more fuel and less power. Then there is that weight factor which create an unbalance between TV and TT or 5er as a combination. If both would have the same weight there would be balance and more stability. There never is so we have the create balance as close as possible and drive accordingly. Wind and semi passing's is one of the factors we have to account for, it add to the sway factor. Soon units over 40 ft. should have a class 8 pulling them, because the dual one ton is just to light. A class 8 also seems easier on fuel. Being underpowered means a line up behind on the 2 ways what gives discomfort. So it is better to have some extra under the hood. Nice video to watch about the Hemi!

Yeah, but she paid nearly what those trucks cost. That is part of my dilemma. I think everyone should go without buying for an entire year and the prices would come down. New vehicles are just ridiculous!
