Attaching a portable solar kit

No preference as to which battery out of the two 6v that I should attach the 'portable' solar panels to? Probably a silly question, and not one that I even thought of until my wife asked .... just got me thinkin' ...

New solar kit that I haven't used yet.

Before you go out and purchase a battery(s), you need to answer a few questions for yourself:

- "What do you wish to accomplish with this solar package?"
- Battery charging only?
- Dry-Camping? How long are the trips for?
- Run an inverter?
- TV?
- Charge cell phones? Tablets?.....

Based on the above information, we would have a better idea as to what batteries you need.

You will also need to somehow secure the solar panels so they don't grow legs.

Don

I apologize Don - happens once in a while when I'm trying to post short messages - I totally screw up the intent.

I already have two 6V batteries installed in my 19RD .... my question was "Is there a difference as to which battery you attach alligator clamps on the Solar Unit to?" I wouldn't think so, but my wife asked, and that got me thinking....

Sorry for the confusion....

You do not want to connect to just one of the 6v batteries. You need to connect on one battery positive and the other to the negative of the other battery, these positions should be separate cables not connecting the batteries together. The batteries should be connected together via a positive and negative this allows for the 12 volts needed, do not connect here. There are others on this forum with great write ups on solar, if you do a search for solar you will get a good idea how it all works. I hope this makes helps. Ted

If you do not have the electrical experience/knowledge to SAFELY do these projects, you may want to ask for someone with the knowledgeto wire in the batteries/solar.

Here is how you should have the batteries and SOLAR set up.

Hope this helps
