Jayco cargo tray/bike carrier issue

We are into our second season with the welded supports I detailed in a earlier post. Still working flawlessly after towing almost 7000 miles.

IMO, it was a good alternative and only cost $35 bucks.

After my bike rack tore off the trailer, I changed the design of the mount completely. Now the trailer has TWO 2-inch receivers, one on the port side and one on the starboard side of the trailer frame. The bike carrier mounts into both receivers.

Aaglan, can you please post photos of your setup ?

Some have mentioned that in 2015 Jayco went to a 2" receiver on TT. Unfortunately I got an early model with the trailer. Does anybody have photos of how Jayco mounts their 2" receiver ? Is this a part that could be ordered and installed by a competent welder ?

It survived the round trip from NY to FL last year. I recently purchased my first MIG welder and might play with it at the end of this camping season to apply some of the beef up strategy discussed here

I am probably stating something you already know, but for safety's sake, I would disconnect the batteries befor beginning any welding. It is also good practice to connect the mig's groung as close as possible to the area uou are welding. Perhaps overkill but any type of computer is very sensitive to the welding process.

Good info, but it looks like all the welding will take place with the rack components removed and on my garage floor

With the 1" square stock slid over the existing arms, they still were able to slide into the trailer mounted pieces ?

They slid the 1 inch stock inside the smallest existing arm then welded it in place. It still moves in and out when needed. All they did other than welding was to re-drill the latch pin hole thru the new piece that was inside.

It was working fine, I just heard of problems and wanted to avoid them. I carry 2 bikes on it every where and feel much more confident that it will be there at days end.

Look at post #30 for pictures of the welders doing their thing.

Thanks, I am going to be doing some reinforcements as well. I thought about welding supports that would lock it out but if I can still keep it working as intended, even better. We are purchasing some E-Bikes and suddenly the rack strength is more of a concern than when I was carrying a couple $100 regular cheapo bikes

I forgot to add that it was easy to remove. The bolts are easily accessible.
