1996 until present, God willing and the river don't rise, I can start working in another two years. Wife served from 1999 until 2009. Dad served '70-'72 in Worms, FDR. Grandfathers served, one in Army Signal Corps form '39-42, then Army Air Corps (15th AF, 384th Bomb Group) from '42-'45. Other Grandfather was in Navy, on destroyer escorts in the Med...Nazis sunk one out from underneath him.

Happy Veteran's Day!

namvt67, you were on the USS Gen LeRoy El Tinge???? I know we went over with a truck company but could not remember the name. I seem to remember we had an all out brawl the night before departure. I definitely remember our CO having to be awakened from his last night home with his wife and getting us all assembled at about 2 am in the morning outside standing tall. I had pulled a fast one and did not show up for formation. I was upstairs looking out the squadbay window and he was reaming out our company. You could have heard a pin drop when he stopped. I unscrewed a light bulb and tossed it outside. The explosion was like a bomb went off. I somehow escaped capture! LOL Welcome home Marine! Where did you wind up being stationed there? I spent my time in the I-Corps as did most Marines. I was in Phu Bai mostly but made 2-3 trips a week to the river in Hue to pick up fuel off the mike boats. Also spent 3 months in the AShau Valley with an infantry company. Our paths must have crossed again.

Namvt67, my memory is starting to come back a little better. Do you remember the typhoon we got into? We had to batten the hatches and stay below decks for 3-5 days it seemed like. I actually thought we were capsizing once during one night. I can still hear the guys asleep falling out of their racks and hitting the concrete floor in the ship. I actually found a place online where someone posted his recollections of the typhoon and was actually called to the radio room to send out a last message of some sorts. The captain did a great job with that ship is all I remember. The waves were crashing over the tops of the masts as we headed into them! The ship was a mess as about 90% of all onboard had thrown up everywhere. It was inches deep and rolling around the inside decks in the heads. What a ride!!!

He is giving me a great deal of grief about wanting to be a glampper since he slept in a fox hole in Iraq regularly (per him) and I'm just spoiled lol
