Air Compressor

We all know how critical it is to have proper tire air pressure. I have an old air compressor that is at end of life. What type of portable air compressor do you carry in your rig? Has it been reliable?

Air Compressor

I am still looking for the perfect one. I currently carry a small ac powered one from Walmart that is dependable and I use mostly for bikes and topping off a tire.

I have another I carry from Sears that goes up to 100psi, ac also.

Both work for me cause I carry a generator if needed on the road.

Problem is I just upgraded to G614 tires which need 100 to 110 psi. This generator is ok but is overworked to pump 110 psi. I am giving it an opportunity to continue traveling with us and am interviewing replacements just in case.

Harbor Freight has a portable AC model that they claim will hit 150psi. It is on sale for around $100 from time to time. Not sure if it's any good tho. I consider HF a great place to buy single-use or disposable tools but not so much for durable things. I keep thinking that I'd like to carry an AC compressor instead of the 12V one I have now (that I have yet to use). I don't carry a generator so I could only use it at home (got a bigger one in the garage) or in the CG. Just can't bring myself to spring for one - so far.

I carry a Slime Brand 12 volt compressor. I do not recall the model, but they make a few compressors. It works really well, and is fairly quick. The one I have plugs into the cigarette lighter socket. They make bigger ones, but they have to be connected directly to the battery.

I added a power point to the curb side of my HTT inside the refrigerator access panel, to make it easier to fill the street side tires.
Good Luck, I use mine all the time.

This is a good question. I'm thinking of toting my little 3.5 gal compressor along next time we're out, but it's not 12V, so if I get a flat or need it somewhere without shore power, I'm SOL (no genny yet). So then I was thinking (and have been shopping for) a good 12V compressor like the ones from "Slime" that were mentioned above for side-of-the-road usage...

Built in Viair and tank in the truck bed. Controlled by aux switch in dash. QD in the running board, and carry a 50' hose. We can reach all truck and RV tires and air up whenever / wherever needed. Compressor also runs the train horns for those needed moments. This setup is worth every penny.

I have a viair 300P from my off-roading days. Works just fine.
I did add a 25' hose though since the power cord is a little short.

I have an inexpensive one by Stanley that I bought at Sams Club for around $50. It also has a USB charger for your phone, 12V battery jump, 12V cigarette lighter socket that would probably be adequate to run a CPAP or something small, etc.

The one I've been eyeing for a little while now is pretty pricey so I haven't brought myself to buying it. Looks good though and similar to Frieed's.

I bought a Michelin compressor from Costco. It is not very fast but set the pressure you want on the handle and go have coffee it auto shuts off.

We carry a small 12v unit. Works well for us, that and road side assist!

I have a 110 v ac compressor and a 12 v dc compressor- The ac compressor has a 110 # capacity but is very slow due to the 3 gal. tank- the dc compressor has no reserve tank but is faster than the ac tank- I bought the 12 v dc compressor at Harbor Freight for about $60.00- JMHO- DD

I just purchased a Campbell Hausefield on sale for $79 at Home depot. It is 110 and has a 3 gallon tank and will top off at 110 pounds where it shuts off. You can regulate the pressure to whatever you want. We will see how it works out. I bought it mainly to top off tires before and during camping trips. Don't think I would really need 12 volt along side the road. Triple A for me!
