We have a 2013 JayFeather 228 and the battery dies after 2 weeks.

We have a new 2013 JayFeather 228 and the battery goes dead after 2 weeks of no use. We have been told that the battery has to be disconnected or the radio or the gas detector will drain it? I have read about the battery disconnect switches but also have heard you can just pull the fuse going from battery to trailer?

Sorry you had to learn the hard way. I had to press my sales guy to give me a straight answer on battery drain during storage. I was paranoid about the emergency / break-away gear on my trailer so I always unhooked the battery from day one.

and YES....pulling the fuse will do just fine.....but I was paranoid about breaking the fuse. If I were you, I would get a few spares in case you misplace it or break it.

So, you just basically pulled the fuse?

Before I found the list, I installed a quick disconnect on the exterior of the battery box. My fuse was inside the battery box - and my box strap IS A PAIN to remove.

If you choose to remove the fuse, you might want to buy a fuse removal tool from the auto parts store.

We have a 2013 JayFeather 228 and the battery dies after 2 weeks.

Hey herbjayco I also have a 228. I installed a cutoff switch on my battery box. Works great and also cuts the power to my power tongue jack so nobody can play around with it when parked on my driveway. Pretty easy to install and cheap.

I use one as well. Highly recommend marine grade switch is you mount to the outside of the battery box.

Jeff, I received mine in today and it has a positive and ground terminal. The positive going to the battery positive and then do I hook up the common and ground it to the frame? Will this switch also bypass the 30 amp fuse on the battery?

I thought battery disconnects just had 2 terminals,
1 = Positive from battery
2 = Positive to TT

I thought the switch just breaks the positive circuit like a light switch?

Herbjayco it has been awhile since i did the install. If I remember correctly I just ran the positive and negative from the trailer to the switch and then positive and negative to the battery. Trailer is out in storage so maybe some else can chime in?
