Camper any day over Hotel

Went away this past weekend, Friday to Sunday. Stayed at a nice hotel in Pittsfield Ma. It was really clean, had like a small kitchen with microwave, refrigerator and sitting area then two double beds. It was on the top floor decent view. But of course you always forget something as we did, so we had to go buy some supplies. Then there's the beds, we always pull back the top comforter, then check the beds and put our own pillow cases on. Like I said this was a very clean nice place. But it just still grosses me out. But the worst is being stuck inside when your at the hotel. You can't just step outside to sit or do anything and if you do everybody is watching you, its weird. There is nothing like staying in your camper. You have your Own clean bed, bathroom, your complete rolling house. I love my travel trailer. So where would you rather stay your camper or hotel. For me hands down my CAMPER.

I agree. I spend about 50-70 nights a year in hotels for work. Always very nice places, but I just prefer my TT. Although once or twice a year I have to give in and have a family vacation using hotels. Although my life loves camping, she still likes the "no work" elements of a hotel/resort trip. No cleaning when the trip is over, no cooking during the trip and no gracery shopping and packing of the camper. I don't blame her really, and harmony in the house requires we do some hotel trips, but since I alerady spend so much time in hotels and eating lonely meals at the lobby bar on work trips I really much rather be camping.

I have heard over the years " Why do you want to drag a camper around and waste fuel " as opposed to just staying in a motel. As already stated staying in your own home on wheels with your own belongings and especially your own bed means alot . Plus you can get out and walk around in a campground instead of just sitting in a room. Camper all the way.

I love having the camper, so does my family. We have stayed in hotels during the winter and the family just does not like it. It is not comfortable, you can't cook in most of them and the biggest thing is you don't get to sleep in your bed!

Hmm, we have NOT been able to find motel/hotel accommodations at the places we like to stay, like in state or national parks, or NFS lands, or other public lands that usually can be described as "off-the-beaten path." Having the trailer behind our 4x4 allows us to stay pretty much anyplace that we like, when we like. What's not to like?!

Camping is the only way for me!

2 years ago... wife and I wanted to do a 5 day trip together without the kids...

Our options were:
- Sierra + TT
- Sierra + hotels
- Sierra + Bed&Breakfast
- Hyundai Accent + hotels
- Hyundai Accent + B&B

Ended up we went with the TT.... it was the cheapest all around trip, even if the truck took way more gas....

We had room, we had our things, we had our kitchen....

I showed my math to some colleagues who didn't believe me.... end within 3 months 2 of them had bought a TT

Same here but different reasons
We travel and ride long distance on our motorcycle. We stay in motels or sometimes tent it.
Wanted to travel the US for weeks and maybe months at a time. We have never liked motel / hotel at any price. Did it a lot when my son play hockey all over the place 12 months a year. Just feels like you are in jail and dirty.
So we have purchased a truck , a electric motorcycle lift and a TT. Now we will set up in different areas of the US with the TT and ride those areas on the motorcycle.
Life is good!

Camper!!!!!
We used to travel with our son playing soccer Ks,Ok, Neb.
The rest of the team stayed in motels.
We would often arrive a day early and still not spend what they did on motel, food, clothing they forgot etc.
Besides that I hate loading and unloading suit cases.

Spent 40 plus years on the road with 150 motel nights a year or 6000 nights in someone elses bed. Now I'm trying to make up that same number in the trailer. Don't think I'll make it but is sure is fun trying.

Spent 20+ years on the road, 75 to 125 npr, and have stayed in five star hotels such as Château Frontenac right on down to Mom & Pops, such as one in Scottsboro, Alabama, complete with tin 3'x3' or whatever shower. After awhile, absent the critter factor, which can be pretty high, mostly in expensive NYC hotels in my experience, they're all pretty much the same - bed, hot water, TV, bad & overpriced restaurant food. Now that I have my choice, there's no doubt - our camper.

Staying in a different hotel every night for two weeks on our last vacation road trip was actually what convinced us we wanted a travel trailer. DW thought she would LOVE staying in different places every night. She thought she would love not having to clean up after herself. We had been contemplating a TT for a while, so we decided to use the road trip as sort of a litmus test to see how we liked "hotel traveling". We didn't stay in the cheapest places, but we certainly weren't staying in the higher end places either.

Turns out sleeping in a different bed every night is actually pretty miserable, and totally not worth the 1/2 hr or 45 minutes we spend cleaning up after a trip... That and with a TT we get to sleep in our own bed every night, and shower in our own shower and use our own towels... All these items we know are clean, and if they're not, at least it's our own filth we're dealing with. Cost-wise it ends up being a touch more expensive primarily because of our abysmal fuel economy while towing, but it's still totally worth it IMHO.

camper all the way, I was fortunate to be able to use my trailer for work when I was traveling and my company paid my space rent, made traveling for work tolerable.

Our family likes to camp, we like to go on cruises, stay in Marriott properties. Why limit yourself to one genre?

Been camping since 1973.........
One thing for sure. While I'm going down the road at 63 MPH the hotel people are already at the swimming pool with a cold beer. While I'm setting everything up the hotel people are having a nice dinner. While I'm tearing down to leave the hotel people are already half way home.
Done it both ways- so take your pick folks....
Happy trails,

Happy trails,
These are REALLY good points. But then I've been known to crack the beer while setting up, and dinner is almost always better outside, especially by the campfire...

I am in the same boat as you clubhouse. I just got home from a 7 day work trip, working 14+ hours each day. Last year I did about 80 nights in hotels for work, with the family 39 in the HTT, 6 nights tenting, and another probably 15 nights hotels/resorts it with the family. Hotels are my least favorite, as I never sleep very good. Any type of camping is my favorite.

I also get really tired of restaurant food, and the lousy hotel breakfasts.
