Same problem on Precept -same heater. If the thing goes off their is a small button that can be used to reset it. Turn off the heater punch the button with a small screw driver and restart the heater. It will start up again.

Our standard gas/elect Atwood water heater works just fine. We mostly use just the electric. We don't do the boondocking camping so always have power. Since it is just the wife and I, don't really need the gas at all. Will usually fire it up during showers to just let it cycle one time. Want to make sure it is working should we ever actually need it. The wife and I are really good at the "Navy" showers so don't use much hot water at all. I will usually use the campground facilities anyway and let her have the bathroom to herself.
