Making the wardrobe more useful - x213

Any X213 owners or others with "wardrobes" make that area more useful to store more stuff? The area is huge, yet it's fairly useless for us. I've got 3 kids so shelving or something would be more useful. I tried to find one of those hanging units that are fabric, but everything has been too long or is crappy (just fabric on the bottom of the shelves for example, nothing to make them stiff)

We purchased those hanging units made from fabric...yes, they were too long but the pockets that don't unfold when you hang them simply fold up at the bottom and we never realize they are there....the pockets that did unfold and are being used....I cut 1/4 inch plywood pieces the size of the bottoms and placed in each...that made them stiff....they've been very useful.....bought ours at Big Lots for about $4 each.

At Bed Bath and Beyond, they sell 6 pocket hanging organizer that can be hung as 6 pockets straight down or 1/2'd with 3 x 3 next to each other. I purchased this, unstitched the seam in the middle that hold the two sides together, so I had 2 three pocket organizers. We have one in side of the wardrobe, and it still leaves space a the bottom that functions as a 4 shelf.

I bought mine at Target and they have only 3 pockets and fit just perfect. I ordered them online, don't know if they are in store or not.

I bought the rolling drawers at Wal-Mart and left the wheels off. Take out the top drawer and put a couple short screws into the wall to keep them from moving. Besure they're not too wide so you can pull the drawer out.

We added a wood shelf about half way up.

Does anyone have pics? Some of the options mentioned aren't available to me here as I either don't have the store or our Canadian version of the store doesn't have it.

I would assume that your war rode is similar to mine. Here is what I did this summer to make better use of the space.

I'm in Canada. Our Target doesn't have online ordering and we don't have that 3 shelf unit in store.

We found some shallow plastic tubs (with lids) that fit in the bottom of the closet. When we travel each person gets their own tub. They are easy to put in or out. Pack them in the house and carry everything out to the trailer in one trip. Since there is usually only two of us even with the bins in the closet there is still enough room to hang clothes on the garment rail.

I built 4 wooden shelves into my wardrobe... It's not perfect because the wardrobe is so deep but is hugely better than stock. The hard part is that the walls are hollow so you have to build supports into the cabinet for the shelves to sit on. I used a combination of smooth particle board and 1/2" x3/4" strips to support the shelves, tacked together with brads.

In our old hybrid we had a really nice wardrobe closet but had a similar issue in that half of it was wasted space. I put in a set of something like this. They can be stacked together, I did 2 high to essentially provide 3 shelves. Sorry, I never took photos of it.

I added a wire shelf I bought at Walmart (I think, getting old and suffering from CRS) using command hooks.

Making the wardrobe more useful - x213

I’m the original poster and realized I never updated with our solution. We installed an IKEA metal rack with metal mesh drawers. It needs to be built inside the wardrobe else if you build it first, you won’t get it in. It’s mounted to the floor of the cabinet so it doesn’t move in transit. We bought the solid shelf that goes on top of the IKEA unit and that’s where we stack towels. Then, just a fabric bag with hanging pockets on the door.

Here are pics although it’s a mess now as I wasn’t the one who set it up this trip. [emoji6]

Edit: can’t do pics from my phone as Tapatalk fails on every pic upload and using a mobile browser posts the pics sideways. Ugh. Might have to wait until I get to a computer.
