Blackened 30 amp plug
After unhooking from the shore power at a campground noticed one of the prongs on my 30 amp cable was slightly blackened. Do I need to replace the cable head or will it be fine? What caused this? Breaker was off when I plugged in.

Most likely a worn or loose receptacle. If your plug is not physically damaged it should be fine. You may want to look into an Electrical Management System such as the ones by Progressive Industries. They would cut your power if a problem arose with your electrical system. If when you plug in your power cord make sure it is a tight fit.
Good Luck.

Just clean off the the blackened char on the prong, so that the next time you plug in, you'll have good contact.

Buy yourself a 50a to 30a dog bone, after plugging into so many worn out 30a outlets at campgrounds I now only plug into the 50a outlet and the dog bone only sends me 30a

If the prong/blade was blackened but the plastic molded around the prong/blade was not affected, your male plug should be fine. If the plastic housing to the prong/blade shows black or melting, then it's time to replace it.
Plastic damage has a few reasons. However, a sooted prong/blade without the plastic damage is generally the outlet problem (at the campground you were at in this case).

Thanks
Thanks for the advice. Will purchase a doggone and try to use that on next three trips. Camper is going in for maintenance on separate issue, with a screwed up entry door that is hard to shut and open, so I will have them check it out but I don't think it'll need teplacef. Thanks again.

How does it only send you 30 Amps, as it is plugged into a 50Amp breaker?

Yes it will send you 50 amps at 120 volts, but your RV will limit your usage to no more than 30 amps. There is a very slight chance of an issue with your power cord since, if it shorted it would pull 50 amps before the pedestal breaker trips, but this is a very remote chance.
