Door lock / key problem

We just bought a 2002 31' jayco TT and as the seller got his money and handed over the keys, he says, "Oh by the way... We broke the key off in the door lock and haven't locked it in years". Camper is permanently on a seasonal site and we will have to winterize it by Columbus Day, not sure we are ok with leaving it unsecured all winter!!

What do we do now??? A dealer, locksmith, good handyman???

Take the key stub or another key that will fit into the lock and that can make contact with the broken off key and either put a very small amount of crazy glue or quick set epoxy on the end of the stub/key and carefully put it into the lock to make contact with the broken off key without touching anything else. Let it set up and try to carefully pull the broken key straight out. I did this once successfully and have seen locksmiths also do it.

It's easy to replace the whole thing and cheaper than a lock smith service call.
I purchased a whole new lock assembly for around $30 off the www couple years ago.

I had to replace the door latch mechanism due to a stuck key. Easy job.

Just replace the latch... 5 min with a screwdriver.

If they broke the key off the lock may have been giving them problems for awhile anyway. I agree with most, just buy a replacement. Usually only 4 screws on the side and two on the faceplate to remove and replace. Simple five minute job.

Just replace it with a new lock and plate.
