Happy trails to all.

Just ordered a GMC 3500 SRW Duramax. Considered a 2500 but the upgrade to 3500 was only another $1200. Don't get me wrong, $1200 is nothing to take lightly, but in the scheme of the total cost of the truck it wasn't that significant and provides the flexibility to pull most anything I'll ever want to pull in the future.

I went with the '14 Ram 2500 after test driving the Ford and Chevy diesels in the same class. Once my wife got involved and rode in all the trucks...the Ram was her favorite. The ride in the Ram, with the rear coils, is much more pleasant than any of the others...IMHO. So between the ride, the interior on the Limited, and the Mega Cab for the extra room for the kiddos...the selection was made. We haven't looked back and really enjoy the truck, especially when towing. I don't have white knuckles anymore from driving wife's SUV!

This should be my next truck as well. Good choice! The Duramax is very reliable without the Cummins high maintenance costs and problems with the O2 sensors costing a fortune to replace every few months, plus the overheads, plus the EGR... I got to tell you, I could never buy a pickup that is "pre-rusted" from the factory... I wish I had never owned a Cummins. TOTAL JUNK! Hey guys, don't shoot the messenger. it isn't my fault you bought junk! I made the same mistake! But never again!!!

I've got the fever too. Got it bad. I almost cashed in some retirement money (stupid, I know) to buy a truck just this last Christmas.
I calmed down though, and now I'm going to wait until next Christmas. I won't have to cash in retirement to get the cash, and with the equity I have in my current truck, I'll come out of it pretty good.
Lookin at the Ram 2500 gasser with 6.4L Hemi. I have VERY short commute to work, and this truck would give me more than enough payload and towing capacity for whatever we plan to get in the future. The 3500 is also not out of the question if I can make the deal I need and get the options I want. With our current setup, we're right at the max on the truck; it'll be nice to have plenty of wiggle room with the new truck, especially with the cross-country trips we have planned in the next few years. We started with the big trailer, so we'll likely go smaller next time we buy...

That's funny you are dogging on the cummins and calling it pre rusted when clearly the picture you posted is a half ton, and doesn't even have a cummins

LOL!!! You obvious failed to read the post concerning the rust problem. Two different problems. My post about the Cummins is a different issue. It has nothing to do with rust on a Ram, although my post about the rust is a common problem concerning ALL Rams no matter which model. Don't believe it just go look! I did and I will NEVER buy one! Period! If you want to go ahead. Jezz, I though it was common knowledge that all Dodge/Ram pickups were rust buckets and have been for over 50 years. If you bought one, I'm sorry for you.

We get it you don't like ram, no need to beat the matter to death. You are entitled to your opinion as am I. I respect peoples opinions and preferences even if they differ from mine, you obviously do not. The op was looking for opinions on trucks, so I gave mine, and you disrespected it. If you have nothing positive to contribute be quiet. I don't appreciate your comments of feeling sorry for ram owners and common knowledge. Grow up and stop talking childish.

I see this generation RAM all over the place with this same rust out pattern. It's a design flaw and a common well known problem. All vehicles have them.
And don't count on that warranty. My neighbor's RAM was not covered. It was not wrecked, nothing aftermarket was used. He eventually got a new bed, but I don't know who paid for it. Shortly after that he got rid of it. They didn't need a PU anymore (they sold their TT) so they bought a Nissan instead. Mind you this guy has Mopar in his blood. He's in a Mopar club and owns a beautiful '69 Super Bee (you should see our street when the club comes over for a party!) and they have a Jeep Cherokee. So I was very surprised to see them jump brands.
All that said I can't imagine that RAM would not have fixed this in newer models. Quite honestly, I wouldn't hesitate to buy any brand of truck. For me it all boils down to what the features are and if we like driving it.

I have a guy at work that had his Toyota Tacoma frame rot to nothing. The cab looked mint. Did a quick search and they had a recall on it. Some scary stuff..

Some rust is benificial as long as it can dry out. You get rust through from holding wet debries. There are 100 year old rusty barn roofs all over america. Paint can lift or lose adhesion to a surface and create a rust out condition where if it were left unpainted it would surface rust and then rust no more. Chemical rusting is a rust preventative method used to color metals and prevent further rust.
Rust gets a bad rap. What needs a bad rap is poor design where metals meet and form pockets that hold bits of dirt and remain wet all the time. That will rust out anything.

I don't believe that this thread is what the JOF is about and that the way this thread was turned by an individual who is no doubt angry at Cummins and this thread should be killed.
