Your opinion on a purchase matter

I'm scheduled to pick up my new 2010 Jayco Jay Feather Sport tomorrow, but while talking to the salesperson today, we realized that I needed a wiring harness for this trailer (I had an old 4-pin design on my truck).

I had assumed that the harness was part of the Reese WD hitch assembly that I was purchasing with the trailer, which cost me about $600 or so.

He said the harness and installation would run between $200-300. That sounds excessive to me.

What do you think?

Should be about $150 to $200 in my opinion. It's about an hour to install.

You might want to contact your tow vehicle dealer and ask about the cost of a wiring harness and its installation. Or you might want to contact a trailer hitch dealer and ask the same question. If you will be using a brake controller, ask about the cost of this item and its installation as well. By comparison shopping you will find out if your RV dealer's quoted price is you best option.

I agree its excessive, however I think its the going rate. I just bought a new jayco G2 and am selling my pop up, the lady who came to look at my pop up had her rav 4 wired for towing by uhaul and they charged her 300 to do it.

I cant imagine its that hard, but also I have never done it....
