30 Amp Fuse

For the second time on my '97 262FK the 30Amp inline fuse just off the positive side of my batteries went to heck. To get through the weekend I pulled the fuse out and taped the contacts together. Having already done this once, I wanted something more robust and weatherproof so I went to the auto parts store and bought a heavy duty mini fuse holder that has a rubber cap to fold over the fuse and seal out dirt and moisture. I wired it in and put in a 30A mini fuse and we're back in business. I like the design of this better than the plastic holder with screw on cap that came with the trailer especially with it dangling outside the battery box. I'd recommend this style fuse and holder for those that have experienced the same problem. For those that haven't it's probably just a matter of time.

Yep, it's the simple up-grades that count the most

The newer trailers are coming out with the AUTO RESET type circuit breaker coming off the battery. This fused purpose is to protect the wiring in case of short circuit down the line. It should be pretty hard to blow this fuse. Maybe you have added more batteries and need to increase this fuse value. Your batteries will demand around 20AMPS for each battery plus some safe zone. Usually a 30AMP FUSED circuit is for one 12VDC battery being charged...

I replaced my in-line fuse holder with BLUE SEA FUSE BLOCKS. I like the idea of having 4AWG RING TERMINALS everywhere for my battery connections.

In my case it's not the fuse that's caused the problem it's been the fuse holder and the contacts. Eventually they corrode or the spring loses tension but I got tired of screwing with them trying to make them work so whenever it happened in the past I changed out the whole thing. This time for less than $8 I changed it out and had new fuses to spare. I already had the shrink connectors and wire ends so I had it changed out in a flash. And, it should be a lot more resistant to water and dirt infiltration than the old style and the way the new fuses engage in the holder a much better electrical contact than the original.
