To EVERYONE,,, Thank you all. Clubhouse, I think reading your post has really helped me to sort this out. Each time I read another post it becomes clearer to me. The tip on raising the tongue jack is great! So do you suggest I add a friction sway bar, too? (We have not ever noticed any sway) I will at some point today go out with a magnifying glass and read what it says on the hitch as far as weight goes. Then I'll post that info. Also. Doc Brown, thanks for the picture!

You shouldn't need sway control with that length, especially if you've never felt it swaying.

I found with our 19H that, with the WDH tightened up, truck + trailer drove like we were on train tracks

I thought I mentioned raising the tongue jack several times LOL

Again, it is a matter of opinion, but I would recommend the sway control. They are not that expensive. I bought mine from Amazon for about $35. For that price I figured it can't hurt anything. Its kind of like the 2wd vs 4wd debate. If you need it and don't have it, it's too late.

I'm with Howie, get a sway control bar. You don't need sway control until you need it.

Some years back we were driving home in pouring rain (yes, I know, you aren't supposed have the sway bar in rain, but I do anyway). I was doing about 45. Suddenly my rear wheels slid sideways. The trailer (a 17 ft hybrid) went bananas. I was sure I was going to dump it. I used the lever on the brake controller to get it back under control. I always wondered what would have happened without the sway control.

Howie, I guess you did mention it in the beginning! (SORRY!) But since it's all new to me, I didn't get that you meant while it was attached to the tow vehicle! Now I do. And thanks for all your help!

Doesn't matter the size, any trailer can have a sway event under less then ideal conditions....., having a sway control device can work wonders when the undesirable condition arises.

My suggestion is for you to go on You-Tube and type in attaching a weight distribution hitch. There is a endless number of videos showing what your asking. good luck
