Recycle Grey Water kit?

I have a blue-boy tank I just bought a few months ago, but I might have considered a kit like this. Seems like a good idea, but I wonder if anyone has actually used a kit like this and can give input on if it works or not. I don't know what the price would be to make your own kit, but just looking at the parts, it might be a good deal? I think the worst part would be opening up the underside of my trailer to install something like this.

I like the idea but I agree that installation may be a problem. This would be good for dry camping in the Southwest where water is at a premium.

Not sure that would help me and the DW much. With her shower habits, by far, most of the water used ends up in the gray tanks. But then again, we have 80 gal of fresh so we're pretty well set. By myself I could last a month probably.

Took me a while to get my wife to learn to take sea showers but it's paid off. We can now go camping for a week before we have to empty the grey tank. Try one of these shutoff valves attached directly to the shower head to make it easier on her. I picked this one up at Home Depot for around $5.

She's pretty frugal with the water when she showers but she just wants one morning and evening. With my close cropped hair I can bath head to toe with less than 2 qts.

We have a valve on the shower already. Problem is, it's one of those that dribbles to let you know it's closed and it messes up the temperature balance so the water scalds you when you turn it back on.

Here's a shower head with a switch on the handle that cuts off the water flow completely. I like it because it avoids the waste of that dribbling water.

It may be a back flow of hot water into the cold water line that causes the blast of hot water after a shower head's water has been cut off. You can install a check valve that (at least for our RV) corrects the problem of the water becoming suddenly hot after cutting off the flow to the shower head; here's a thread.

I think the OP is referring to the use of grey water being used for "flushing" instead of fresh water. In that case a spouse using lots of fresh water to shower with may be a good thing???

That does suck - I didn't notice that - I saw them in the diagram and didn't pay much attention to the parts picture.

I was ready to build a Grey water transfer system into my old trailer. I had plumbed a TEE into the black tank vent, and was planning on using a bulkhead fitting to connect to the 1-1/2" PVC vent tee that I had installed. What held me up was how to draw off the grey tank.

I didn't want to create another hole in the floor of the coach, so I was leaning towards cutting the 1=1/2" external drain PVC before it got to the waste dump valve, and fitting in another TEE/bulkhead fitting to connect some tubing to the grey tank.

Then I was going to simply mount a second pump to the coach floor under the sink, and it would flow into the black tank.

Running it would be a momentary push button.

What stopped me, you ask?

I couldn't for the life of me find a good bulkhead fitting that I could gasket-tighten onto the PVC cap.

I'm confused, CT. Would your system actually use gray water to flush the toilet or simply transfer gray water to the black tank?

Transfer only.

I suppose my transfer system idea could have incorporated a kitchen sunk hand sprayer, and spray into the toilet, but I never got that far.

If you adapted the transfer line to use a hose fitting you could use a waste line clean out fitting that uses the four pins on waste line. Some have a hose fitting. Your new pump could them pump it into the black tank through the black tank Washer. Why do you want to transfer grey tank liquid into the black tank anyway?

If you use the grey water for the toilet you may want to add a filter as the grey can get sediment from the kitchen and could cause problems with the toilet. I would be worried about odor as well.

I like the bayonet fitting idea.
I wasn't planning originally on flushing capabilities, but yes, a filter at least a strainer would be good.
I just want to extend grey tank capacity, and dilute the black as much as possible.

But the odor... Wouldn't what was being flushed be worse?

I think the original thought was to use shower water only (in the op attachment). One of the reasons is because there seems to be plenty of that

I know this sounds kind of dumb, but I often shower with the plug in, and just scoop the water into the toilet when I'm done. My wife thinks I'm nuts, but it does help with not filling the grey tank so quickly. I do the same with the dishwater sometimes. We have a 197, so we aren't having to walk 50' from the sink to the toilet!
