Secluded sites in North Georgia?

We are new trailer campers, and I'm finding so many RV campground spots to be too close together for my taste. We used to primitive tent camp so now in comparison I feel like we are camping in a big parking lot. We don't want to camp 10 feet away from our neighbors.

Any suggestions for finding solitude in a travel trailer?

Any specific suggestions for places to go in the North Georgia or Great Smokey National Park areas?

Mike

Try Springer Mountain in North Central GA. It is a horse farm with a few RV sites. We went there last year and had a blast. It is on a side of a mountain and very scenic. Very private, very quiet. The owner only takes cash but it was only $25/night with hookups. There is no sewer hookup, but there is a dump on the way out. BTW, we picked up about 50 HD stations there on our ant. It has a direct shot to ATL and Chattanooga. Also, if you go here, don't leave your dog or pets out as they might become a tasty meal for the coyotes!

Have you tried any state parks? I usually find them (and any government run park for that matter) to usually have larger campsites and the most generous amount of space between campsites. The trade-off, however, is that FHU sites in these parks are often non-existent.

X2, GA has some beautiful State Parks but they are usually full during the Summer so now is a great time to go. I really like Vogel, Black Rock Mountain, Tallulah Gorge plus there are many on Lakes like Lanier. Shady Grove on Lake Lanier is real nice.

Skidaway Island SP is one of our favorites. The sites are big and the way it's laid out you are not close to your neighbors. It's high priced for a SP.

We have tent camped at Vogel a few times and like it. We are going to take the trailer to Black Rock Mountain this weekend. We were at Tallula Gorge State Park a couple weeks ago and found it a little too tight for our liking.
We are interested in trying the parks on lake Lanier, as we have a boat there too. We have tent camped at Old Federal a few times and liked that.

I should take a "scouting" trip in the car one weekend and check out a bunch of parks and write down spots that we like.

I spent some time yesterday doing online research for a place around Cherokee, NC. We are going there in 3 weeks, so lots of the places were already full and others had that big parking lot feel to them.

I appreciate the replys. I'll have to check out Skidaway too. Maybe in the cold of winter we could go south to that park!

We love to camp at CLOUDLAND CANYON State Park up on Lookout Mtn at the Trenton GA Exit on I59.. Just down the road a few miles is another same type atmosphere at DESOTO STATE PARK at Fort Payne ALA.

Friendly management there and lots of open space to roam around the canyon trails an lots of fall foliage everywhere you look...

X2 on Cloudland Canyon - very nice park. The road up there from the West is quite an adventure though!

We went to cloudland canyon many years ago but I can't say I remember it. It's definitely on our short list of places to go again.

This weekend we went to Black Rock Mountain State park near Clayton, GA and enjoyed it. We got there late Friday and took the spot right by check-in and registration. At first it wasn't a great spot because of all the traffic at the entrance, but the rest of the weekend was much quieter and the spot turned out great.
