K&N filters
What is the popular opinion of the value of K&N filters? Worth the money?
Thanks

I've always put them in my vehicles pretty much immediately after purchase. I figure they're re-usable, so at some point they will pay for themselves that way. I generally keep my vehicles for a long time, and I live out in the country, so we have a lot of crap in the air. I still have the first recharge kit I ever bought, so they last quite a while.
Do they really make a difference in performance and HP? Meh, I dunno, maybe so. Dyno tests like you to think so, but I'm not sure I could feel it if they did. But I still think they're worth the money; they're really not that expensive.

I live in dusty West Texas where paper or stock air filters should be replaced every 5000 miles. I installed my K&N at 30,000 miles. I now have 130,000 miles on the same filter so I can say it has definitely paid for itself. Just make sure you clean and treat it on a regular basis. It's a good idea to put the K&N decal on the air filter housing so, if you take your truck to a quick oil change place, they won't try to sell you a new filter along with everything else they say you need.

Cotton/oil air filters (such as K&N) pass more air than paper filters. They also pass more dirt.
I use paper on everything I own.

Properly oiled K&N styled filters filter better and let more air through.. When I traded my last truck I put the paper filter back in and found then that the new truck used the same part number so I have been using mine for 10 years now.. Knock the dirt out of it once every 3 months and clean it once a year.

Sorry, but that is simply not true. The tests have been done.

It's very debatable. I have read tests that indicate it is not better. I bought one for my 7.3 diesel years ago when they were advertising better fuel economy. I saw no change.

I made the decision long ago to stick with an OEM filter for my vehicles.
K&N vs OEM Filters

A local manufacturer makes paper filters for several car and heavy truck companies. After touring the plant several times and seeing the research and quality control that goes into air and oil filters I would have a hard time believing an after market product could exceed their performance. I like to throw the trapped dirt away and start fresh.

Good quality paper filters for me, I replace more often than the schedule says.
As with all filters "pay me now or pay me later"
K & N is expensive and many friends where not satisfied with their advertised promises.

K&N filters
I have them.. Used them for a long time...and I like them. My preference. Not to say I notice a difference, but I like them.

I have a whole fist full of those stickers! Never did put them on any of my vehicles, perhaps I should put them all on my truck! I'd get at least an additional 200 horses!!
