towing weight for 1997 1208

Thanks in advance for any information.

I have a 1997 Jayco Jay Series 1208 with the AC up top. I am looking at downsizing my tow vehicle from the Chevy Trailblazer to something that gets mileage further into the double digits MPG.

Wondering how far I can downsize given I don't think I have a good record of what the tow weight of the unloaded camper is.

Again, thanks for any and all info!

Hamfist,

Welcome to the Jayco forums!

I found one weight reference to the 1997 Jayco Jay 1208 of 1,755lbs, but I don't know if that is the published "Unloaded" weight or the "GVWR". There should be a weight sticker inside the PUP, possibly on the inside of cabinet door.

If all else fails, contact Jayco with your VIN number, they should be able to give you the weight specifications.

Bob

I would think you'd want the weight of the TT loaded. A trip to the CAT will tell you that. I just made the stop a couple of weeks ago and was in an out in about 15 min (3 passes) and spent around $12 as I remember (the first pass was $9 and change, pass 2 & 3 were $1 each).
Now I know what all the bits weigh.

Any of the small crossovers or suv's like the escape (3000lbs towing) should work. See which one you like then check the tow ratings. Your popup shouldn't be over 2500 lbs. Larry

Something as small as a v6 Rquinox should be able to tow your pup

Or try Chevy.com. Check tow capibilitys there

The interest on the loan will cost you more than the fuel savings...
