Tip for trunion and sway bars

I have used this on my own TT, a tip my dad used for all of the years he has used sway control and trunnion type leveling bars.
Maybe someone already knows this but here it goes.

Waxed paper. Place a doubled sheet over the each end of the sway balls, hitch and A frame. A doubled sheet over each end of the trunnion bars where they slot into the hitch.
I am using the same weight distribution system my dad bought back in the 70s with very little to 0 wear, always waxed them.
Not sure who told him about this, but it does work and keeps thing much cleaner!

Yep, heard of it years ago. The most common use was to add a fresh piece of wax paper over the hitch ball after every tow.

Lots of uses for wax paper......, have a paper shredder at home, run a little wax paper through it to clean & lubricate the blades.

We used to buy wax paper at Costco, but recently ran out and went to buy another one. The last two visits they didn't have any! I guess I should ask the manager to run it in his computer and see if they will stock it again, but it's been months since they did so at our local warehouse

I just buy the Waxtex from Fareway, 1 roll lasts quite a while.
I have also used the Tyvek envelopes from the Post Office, it holds up really well!
Forgot to mention, I change it every time I hook up.

I have never heard of this. You are telling me to put a piece a wax paper everywhere my hitch makes contact with my RV and TV. I am on vacation now and if I understand what your telling me I plan on trying it on the way home. It sure beats axle grease and alot less messy.

I can't speak for 'Big Jim', but the type of WDH you have may not lend itself to this technique. In the case of the Equal-i-zer and Reese Dual Cam products one wouldn't want wax paper on any surface that is used for controlling sway (metal-to-metal friction required).

Not sure of the style of ball mount 'Big Jim' is using (maybe he can post a pic), but the newer units socket tolerances might be tighter, and once the trunnion spring bar upper/lower ball sockets are inserted you want them to remain properly seated.

I believe Big Jim is also referring to the standard friction sway control bar that is mounted via two ball sockets (top of ball mount and A-frame).

Just thinking out loud here.

As I mentioned earlier, wax paper over the hitch ball was a common practice.

Thanks for a clarification. I have the Husky centerline hitch, so it sounds like this technic is not for me as my hitch works very simular to the equalizer hitch.

I have a Reese setup.
Standard type friction sway bar, it has a ball mount on the trailer A frame and a ball mount on the shank.
The trunnions, are square WD bars, fit into pockets on the shank.
I will post pics after I hook up next week, before I leave on my trip.

So this is NOT for the Dual Cam setup, from what I have gleaned, just a friction swaybar setup.

Your correct.., but I "believe" the OP is implying that it can be used on the spring bar upper/lower knuckle tips that are inserted into the ball mount sockets (reference my earlier "tolerances" comment). Definitely not over the DC cam arm surface!

I did that until I got the Hensley Arrow.. if you use this system make sure after each trip to pull the little bits of wax paper out from the inside of the hitch head... not a big deal to do

I'll bet Johnson's paste wax in a can would probably work also. I might try this out next season. Clean all the molybdenum disulfide grease off the ball and round bar ends/sockets and slather them with Johnson's. I'm always concerned with getting the black grease on my shirt or pants 'cause it's almost impossible to remove.
