Lift Kit for Jayco 26L

My wife and I purchased a 2007 Jayco 26L in December. After driving 600 miles round trip to purchase we get it home and because of the sewer drain, the scrape bars, low frame and the angle of our drive way we couldn't back it up into our yard. Our solution was to drop the torsion bar axle and install a self make lift kit that added approx. 5 inches to the wheelframe. It also added about 70 pounds to the curb weight as well. But it worked and is now parked in our driveway.

Nice mod.

It wasn't a Jayco, but this is what I did to my first travel trailer, which had the same type axles and frame as yours.

Alko axle lift.

Do you guys see any handling differences?
I could stand 3" of lift. Thought it might be top heavy and catch a lot more wind.

Let us know how it handles and such.

If you have a Dexter axle, their wesite lists at least a couple of different style lift kits. (I don't know about the other brands.) I'm probably not going to apply a lift kit to mine, but I was told by a Dexter rep that it can be done on your driveway with the common tools most people own.

You will get more ground clearance, but raise the center of gravity. I think any effect on towing characteristics would be minimal, but I would check with an expert before raising the TT.

My TT is new to me and in storage right now.
I'll have to study it more next season.
I thought about welding a heavier protective bracket around my sewer connection, but it looked pretty tight.
Again, I didn't have much time to study possible options before putting it in storage.

When I lifted mine(3"), there were no effects on towing and handling. The three extra inches of hight made a big difference in backing into uneven sites, connection and flow of sewer hose. Many have built my axle lift for ALKO axles (installed on Norco/BAL frames), using my Template and Installation Instruction; and have been satisfied with the outcome. If interested, I can supply the Template and Instruction by email.

I have a Jayco Feather 165 Sport. Single axel, torsion axels I believe is in the manual.
I am not sure if those are Dexster Torflex?

Yes Doug,Dexter. I hate having to deal with the low drain and tring to dump the tank up and into the sewer drain. most sites ive been to are at or above the height of my drain connection level. I would consider a lift on my 165 but may endup trading up in size in the next few yrs.

Yep,
That was the 1st thing I noticed when looking at buying this TT.
I will have to look into a lift kit.
I have a brother-in-law that is a heavy equipment mechanic, so he should be able to direct me.

I think I'll see issues on our April trip out to Ca. I wish I had time to modify prior to leaving.

I've had request for my axle lift Template and Installation Instructions.
You must realize, this will only fit on AL-KO axles mounted on Norco/BAL Ultra Frames.
Please review the photo below. Your frame should look like this. If not, my Template and Installation Instructions will not work.

If your trailer was built with Torflex (Rubber Torsion) axles, visit the Dexter website for axle lift products(Click here).

Anyone know which axles a 2007 19H uses? I lifted my tent trailer on a Dexter axle and plan to lift my HTT as soon as I can. Thanks!

In the 2007 19H trailer brochure, it states: Easy-lube(EZ-Lube) axles. This is a Dexter Brand Name.

The lift didn't have any effect on towing whatsoever. We have towed in strong winds (very common in North Dakota) with no problems as well. We had to lift it in order to get it into our storage area.

this is exactly what I need....my 2005 Aerolite has the same axle configuration

Kensters: Those Jay Feathers with the Ultra-Frames where built very low. There are a couple of treads regarding this. Myself I built a sub-frame what makes it a stronger design special for the 31 ft Jay Feather. Another weak link is the front A-Frame cross member. I repaired nine of them. They will buckle when the bolts get loose and the didn't install a center bolt. But the design on the Ultra-Frame and the light design of the Jayco shell add to the situation. All you have to do install a piece of 2 x 2 x 94 x 1/8 angle iron inside the shell (outside storage room) and drill the extra hole for the center bolt. Use new 3/8" carriage bolts 5 x 3" and 2 x 3 1/2 ". You can PM me or email me at aljo@telus.net
