2012 X23B Mods

Here are a few mods that I have completed in the last month or so that we have had our new 2012 X23B. It is an excellent trailer.
Wardrobe changes; I added wire linen shelves. One 6’ piece was more than enough. I did have to add a piece of wood along the back to fir it all out to mount to. The baskets are from Target. They fit both on their side and upright. Nice for easy access and secure for transport.

There are a number of changes I have done under the dinette. I removed the drawer and associated paneling. I added a piano hinge to make it look good and easy access to items in the center. I moved the panel next to the water heater closer. I also swapped the plywood panels that are under the cushions that required adding a brace to support the plywood edges. I added 12V bunk fan outlets (no pics). Lastly I added two 3M LED Utility strip lights. The LED lights have two cool features. They have a proximity switch to turn them on/off. Also they turn off after 20 minutes. Lastly I added some industrial adhesive Velcro to hold up the seat backs. There are a few more mods to come in this area. But it is now time to go camping again.

Nice work! Where did you tie in the LED lights to a power source?

Nice job. I may have to remove the drawer. It will give me more space under the trailer.
Thanks for the ideas

Crabman, I pulled a set of wires continuously from the power converter to the front of the trailer for bunk lights. It took about an hour to fish the wires under and around the backside of the shower. If you decide to do such, leave a wire pull (twine) for any future pulls. It was a pain to get the fish tape around that back corner. Then the wires make their way forwards, following the existing utilities (wires and water pipes). I terminated the wires using 3M Scotchlok electrical Insulation Displacement Connector” for the lights in the water heater compartment to reduce the risk of the wire connections from being pulled on. The main wire pull does make its way all the way to the shelving unit above the front bunk. It is all out of sight, except for maybe 2” that still very difficult to see, due to its location. No plug molding was used in the installation of the wires.

Ladywendolyn, I purchased the lights at our company store (I work at 3M, no plug intended). Do a web search for “3M™ LED Tape Light - Utility Vehicle - Standard Kit, 34051”

If you want to work with LED light strips then go to IKEA Warehouse. In their light department they have an LED section. I picked up a unit that had 3 light strips about 12" long (each) came with little plastic strip brackets for mounting and a plug with cord and 120 Volt to 12 VDC module. I only kept the 3- 12" inch light strips and mounted them under the cabinet to a switch to the 12 VDC supply. Since the light strips work from 12 VDC I already had my power source in the trailer. AND, the cost was only $14.99 for the whole kit. Just watch the polarity when you hook it up.
Happy trails,
