Ants

I'm sure most of us full timers and others that spend a lot of time in RV's fight ants. My home base is in central Alabama and it seems no product or procedure will stop ants. My son in law owns a pest control company and the product he uses professionally only work so so. I treat my site, I treat around inside my rig, I leave no food or residue out anywhere at anytime, dishes are washed immediately after use, everything that touches the ground is sprayed before it enters my rig and the ground around where it touches, etc. We all know the routine. Well, I think I found an additional weapon in the anti ant arsenal.

I have always suspected ants were coming into my kitchen area through the drain even though I leave the gray tanks closed and with chemical in them at all times just like the black tank. I could never prove where they are coming from, but last week after washing up and cleaning the sink and counters I saw a couple of ants. I had used some LA's Totally Awesome All Purpose Concentrated Cleaner outside a little while earlier and the spray bottle was on the counter since I hadn't put it under the sink yet. So I picked it up and put one spray in the bottom of each sink and one on the counter and just let it dry. I haven't seen a single ant since and Awesome kills ants on contact instantly. Apparently the dried product keeps the ants away.

For whatever reason I have not had a single ant in over a week.

Yeah, I know Awesome comes under California's Proposition 65 warning, but I don't care since I don't live anywhere close to California.

I'm in So Calif. and had ants get into my motorhome once while on the cement slab on the side of my house. This only happened the one time when I had my leveling jacks extended which is the only way they could have gotten up inside.

Since that time I have never extended the jacks there and no ants have ever gotten inside. The only other contact point with the ground are the tires which it appears they don't like to climb. Must be harder for them to go up the tires and across the suspension than it was to climb the jacks.

If I am plugged into power I never let the cord rest on the ground. That would be a nice walkway for the critters. Also, no sewer hose is connected.

I did buy some insect spray which I spayed on the ground under the coach at the time but haven't used it since. Everything still points to the leveling jacks as the point of entry.

We always go to LAKEWOOD in Myrtle Beach every SEP/OCT for family gettogethers... I get loaded down with ants big time there...

We have tried everything haha...

When we leave we usually head for Gatlingburg SMOKY Mtns for a couple more nights before heading back to Virginia...

There is no telling how many ant species we have moved from Myrtle Beach to ELKMONT Camp in the Smokies haha... The ants get into both the TRUCK and POPUP camper...

I've had good luck with Anthro brand ant traps, the gel version and liquid as well in both the house and TT. Can tell when we need to change 'em out in the house, ants start to appear.

Anthro also makes an outdoor bait station that you could put by each leg, Not sure if it would help. If we stay in Florida more than a couple days they start coming in. Then we put out inside Anthro stations and spray the legs. But with frequent rains, etc. I think it is the bait killing the queen and stopping the invasion. We also keep spray disinfectant on the countertop and spray and wipe all food services after each meal. All foods in ant proof containers. Never leave out sugar, butter, cookies, etc.
