X2. You hit the nail on the head right there. Many a times, been on business trips and during the free times, I get to sightsee a bit. The most common theme on those sightseeing trips is "I wish my wife and kids were here to see and enjoy this with me..." You know what's best for both of you.

33 RLDS I agree! I could never move South. I've known so many people that have done that only to return. This is beautiful up here three out of the four seasons, no crowds, clean air...
I just hate being cold the older I get. Everything hurts and I fight to keep my house warm, my truck warm and my body warm. A constant battle for a few months.
Listen to these prophetic words of wisdom from me:
The older you get the more your going to hate it. You’ll see.
Ok, I'll quit whining.

Maybe, but at half a century I still love the winter. And I heat with wood so that means at -20 I still sleep in my underwear

Yes, I truly have it made. Every weekend we camp (hike, kayak, climb, drink tons of wine and eat good.). Life is good until winter sets in.
Then, I could literally take a gun to my head.
Give me a kayak in the Keys in February with a Corona or glass of wine at sunset any day of the week over a snowmobile on the best powder or best trails.

I hear you. Just past 40, and I've already decided I can't stand winters anymore. Fun to visit, but not to live in!

And we're in Virginia, further north I would be going insane.

I spend half my life away from my family with my job. We have an incredibly strong marriage. We both feel the separation helps us. When I was home for 6 months straight a few years ago healing from a work injury, we almost killed each other. However I've never been gone more than 6 weeks at a time. Its HARD! I'm generally gone 14 to 21 days at a time then home 14 to 21 days. Seperation makes the heart grow fonder but it ain't fun. When I'm off I can be found with my family. After all that's what I work so much for.

I'm with you on the winters. I work in the northeast delivery heating oil to Albany by barge. Last year was brutal and when I retire I will Never go north of Virgina ever again. I feel for you.

I don't even think it's fun to visit anymore.

Virginia would be paradise to me. Ya, I've got to do something or I will go insane. I don't like the idea of being away from my wife but freezing my butt off another winter sounds even worse.
The best plan is for me to pull the TT down mid January and then return home four to six weeks later. She will fly down for a week, have a conjugal visit or two, then fly home.
