It'started...2014 Snowbirds heading North

We are seeing, at least here in Casa Grande, AZ., more and more every day for the last week rigs pulling out and presumably heading North.

We'll be doing the same next Wednesday taking our time getting back to our home base in Reno on the 28th.

Sure enjoyed everything about this area especially the warm weather and all the activities where we stayed....but time has flown by.

I hope they are not headed to Minnesota, as we still have multiple feet of snow on the ground and are expecting another foot next Tuesday (I hope they are wrong). I have a neighbor that is a snowbird in Texas, she is planning he 3 day drive home on the 31st. I told her to stay for a few more weeks.

My parents are in Lake Havasu City right now. Have been gone in their RV since New Years. They are thinking of leaving in the next week or two but it will take them at least a week to get home to Milwaukee. I told them to wait a little longer so they can get the trailer in the driveway. I still had a foot of snow in the yard this morning but it is in the upper 40s right now on the north side of Chicago so maybe some more has finally melted.

Over the past weeks more and more people are leaving this place. Talking to some people they don't know if they will be back towards the end of the year. They love the weather but it is the politics of the park that are turning them off.

On our way to our home base in Reno from wintering in Casa Grande, AZ. and after stopping in Indio, CA went to Hesperia, CA. Tuesday.

After a nice, albeit windy, overnight stay at Desert Willow RV Park we left about 9:30am, a little early for us but trying to get ahead of the 60mph forecasted wind gusts, yesterday headed North for Lone Pine, CA. We didn't miss the winds...about an hour into the trip we encountered SW to West winds that slowed us down to 35mph for over an hour. It was so windy that it blew our entry steps open on the rig. Glad we have the rear dual wheels on the truck for stability...I would not have continued with single rear wheels. Found out later that they closed US395 to high profile vehicles after we went thru.

Reaching Lone Pine about 1:30pm we decided to push thru to Topaz Lake, NV since we were out of the strong winds but they were forecasted to arrive in Lone Pine mid afternoon. This added another 3:30 min. but we felt worth the extra.

We left Az on the 28th and are now home. (brrrrrrrrr) We left our Jayco in Az and just bought a smaller trailer for summer time use. It was a pleasant trip home without having the trailer behind us and the fuel mileage was a lot better.
