May 16, 2010. "Retired", aka downsized at 62. Since then, built 3 homes, traveled extensively and didn't look back. Vietnam Vet, class of 1969, diagnosed with Parkinsons 3 years ago. I'm very fortunate that I can still do pretty much anything. Docs don't have any idea how long that will last, but the last few years have been a blessing. Every. Day. Is.

I had a discussion with a co-worker in the 80's about life after retirement. We had just lost a co-worker who was nearing retirement age to a premature passing. We came to the conclusion that after working your entire life it would be nice if you could have 10 years to call your own. You got that - and I'm happy for you.

Thank you for your service.

Retired 10 years ago June 1....never looked back. Now half the workforce is terminated when they get to the age I was-without notice. My employer was the #1 employer NOT to work for according to...
somebody.

Four days into my 62nd year almost two years ago. It was overdue. Had a one-month trip with my bride, the first we had ever done. Had a great time in the RV.

Retired at 62 in Sept. 2013, do not regret it at all.

I retired from the State of Michigan, Dept. of Corrections on Dec. 1, 2012 after 29 years at age 53. Wife and I purchased a convenience store in Dec. 2005 which we sold Oct. 2019 at age 61. Sure feels good to be free of all that.

Well, I posted in April I had retired from Napa auto parts at the end of March and in June I updated that post to say that was my second retirement as I had retired from the USAF in 1999. My former manager at Napa retired on 1 October and shortly before he left, the outside sales manager ran into me at the local Napa and asked if I would consider coming back at least part time. My wife and I had been discussing it prior to this and she said if I was asked would I consider going back to work. I told her at the time I'd think about it and that's what I told the outside sale manager. He told me they are having a really hard time finding employees, they even have one store that has a counterman from another store in there and they are putting him in a hotel while he's working. He said if they could get me to come back, even for a 2 or 3 days a week, they'd really appreciate it. I told him I actually HAD thought about it and I'd come back for 5 days a week, part time. I said I'd like to have our former part timers schedule, Mon-Fri, 8AM-whenever they other guys are done with lunch. I also said I have a month long trip we're planning for next summer and if I want to take a long weekend, I can as long as I let the current manager know in advance. He said DEAL! I asked if I'd come back at the same rate of pay, he asked me to call him that night. When I called him, he informed me I would be getting $1/hour raise. I started back on the 5th. I told the current manager, since he and the other full time employee have to work 6 days a week, if they want to take off a Mon, let me know and I'd work all day that day for them. So far they've taken me up on that once.

Took early retirement last year in June at age 63. My wife and I love to travel and had multiple short trips in our area and a 5 week trip to the UP of Michigan and a 7 week trip to Utah, Wyoming and South Dakota. Enjoying every minute of our retirement.

I planned to retire at my 46th birthday, 25 years as a police officer. I might be getting fired for not getting the vaccine, in which case I should be able to get my early retirement at 20 years. Unfortunately I take a huge hit in my pension for not doing 25 years, and another huge hit for not being the minimum age of 46. I'm hoping that doesn't happen next month when the council votes on a vaccine mandate...

I feel for ya! I had to get mine…can’t retire for another 2.5 yrs (at age 47). We are losing a bunch of folks at our agency at the end of the year because of the mandate.
