Well.... planned to retire at 65. We all know what can happen to plans! Apparently I fractured my back November 2017. No idea how that happened. So, being a guy, and not knowing the back was broke, I continued to work for another nine weeks, until I just couldn't any more. I thought the pain would just go away on it's own. (Tell me I'm the only guy to think that would happen!!) So, it looks like I'm retired at 64, but will look for part time something, so I don't drive the DW nuts! My secret to life is, keep moving, or you die. Sorry for the ramble. Shoulda just said "retired at 64".

A month before my 55th birthday. Wasn't the "plan" but took early retirement offer from my employer to care for an ailing mother for the next 5 years instead of putting her in a facility. Don't regret a second of it.

Actual "retirement" began when I was 60.

Retired from the US Coast Guard at 39, worked for a contractor doing inspections on ships for the US Maritime Administration for 10 years, then changed gears and worked for a guy that built and raced top fuel Harleys. M built motors and crewed for him. Retired for good at 55. Now we travel between Oregon and South Carolina visiting kids and grandkids.

I have 19 show up to work days left as I write this before I retire on 12/31/18. I am 55 years old. I am healthy (knock on wood) and have never taken medications. I will probably drop dead on 1/1/19, 1 day after retirement ( it would suck more if I dropped dead before 12/31/18) as I would never get to collect my pension or my 3% yearly compounded COLA's. In 20 years I'll be making more in retirement income than I do now working myself to death.

My wife and I can never be retired in the true sence of the word. She has two parents in their 90's that need help. Then we have our own daughter who is handicapped, and we also own rentals that I maintain. She still works and covers us fully for health insurance, so I have Medicare part A now, and will take B plus a supplement when she's done. I envision us taking trips of perhaps 3 weeks duration, but we still need to come home for the rentals. Selling them off is not an option since they will be put in a trust for our daughter when we die. I'll be 67 next April, but won't claim Social security till she retires. The longer I wait the more I collect. For every year I wait past 66 years of age I collect $160 per month more. I don't smoke, drink, and my weight is good. No high blood pressure. Keeping my fingers crossed. Every days a gift.

Seriously contemplating right now what to do. 58 years old. Wife retired last June as I had planned on as well. I'm the Wholesale Parts Account Manager for a large auto dealer. They made me an offer I could not turn down last June to stay for another year. Supposed to be only 4 days per week now. Worked 68 hours last week so my wife tells me. Whatever. So as I get closer to this coming June I'm scared. How to keep busy?? Being in Canada our camping window is somewhat limited. One acre lot with lots of grass and gardens to keep me busy during the summer. Been with the store for 35 years now. There's a bit of a loyalty thing happening. Going to sit down again in January and discuss department succesion. Nice to be in the drivers seat. Told my wife last night I may offer to stick it out for one more year extra so that will put me at 60. Hopefully by the time I get home this evening she will be talking to me again.

If it's a GM dealer I can send my son in to take over for you and then you can retire

Had planned on retiring in September 2019 but my employer just offered (first time ever) an early retirement package. Will retire December 31st at age 65. Looking forward to putting more miles, and nights, on the Greyhawk! No more camping on crowded holidays, either. Will leave the park sites open for those still working.

Good plan NC as we like to pull into the campgrounds on Sundays and leave on Fridays. Quieter and leaves the weekends for working families to camp.

Retired 3 years this month after selling our AC business at 66 1/2 . Missed it for awhile but I am over that disease now 😄
My wife was scared I would work till I croked . The key is have something that you enjoy doing other than going to a job.

Just turned 64 in Sept. and was basically forced to quit my job (long story). Just filed for SS today. Not much money but better than nothing and the DW will have a pretty decent retirement in a few years. Hope to enjoy some camping time.

As I am retiring at end of the month, a friend at work gave me an appropriate t-shirt.

Retired from the airport Gestopo 10 years ago at 56. Put in 7 years and got fed up with over 400 idiots trying to run TSA (you might know them as Congress). Prior to that, over 30 years as a photo and video journalist. Now I'm more tired since I retired than when I worked for a living.

Really glad I made a bunch of good IPO investments back in the 70's, 80's and 90's. A couple of small companies nobody has heard of (Microsoft, Apple, etc).
